I bought a 5 gal bucket from my local Texaco dist for $54 two years ago. Some other TDR members tried with mixed results from other dists. It looks like the merger of Texaco has complicated things because I tried to search for the 800# I used and could not find it on the Texaco.com site. It looks like the 1874 MTX Synchromesh Transmission fluid is being marketed by - Equilon Enterprises. I did find this link-

http://www.equivatexacomsds.com/

Use the search engine and search for "1874" and you'll get the MSDS.

UPDATE-

I found this-

http://thegenesisnetwork.equilon.com/genesis/prodinfopdf/out/MTX FLUID.pdf

I tried the 800# and it looks like it's active. Remember that they are selling wholsale, so you may need to "act" a little on the phone when you get the local wholesaler phone# in your area

My Texaco distributor had it on the shelf; under $60. for the five gallon pail------ and thats in a city of under 20K people.

Forget MTX, think RedLine Synthetics

Hemmen1, instead of the MTX why not go for RedLines MTL? (Manual Trans Lube). This is fully synthetic proper-weight-for-6-speed gear oil, for $7-8 a quart. I am going to this lube on my next change.

Les,

I did my 1st change at 10K and it really smoothed out the shifting. Now it's every 30K for the life of the transmission.
