I need to replace the PCM on my truck. I've read articles about avoiding a supplier of remanufactured PCM's who is located in Florida. That said... other than the dealer or Cummins... what are my options of obtaining one??

1999 Dodge Ram 2500, 5. 9 Cummins, 4x4, automatic transmission.

What year is yours? For the most part they are not interchangeable, but I have one that came out of a '96 4X4 5 speed. If yours is a '96 PM the numbers to me, they might match.

Some part numbers are not serviced by the factory anymore and the aftermarket remans I have dealt with have been sketchy Good luck in your search

Greg,

The current Dodge part number for the PCM you need is: 56040199AD

They'll all going to be used... new units are no longer being manufactured.

Several are available right now on eBay. Search on part number "56040199" (leave off the "AD" at the end, which is a part number revision level. ) Part number revision levels AA, AB, AC, and AD are fine.

You can also buy refurbished units from Dodge and many aftermarket auto parts suppliers. They're sold on www.rockauto.com for $249. 79 + a 90. 00 core.

Notes:

Any PCM you buy will need to be programmed (flashed) with your truck's VIN, either by the company selling it to you or by a Dodge dealer. Most auto parts stores do not offer this service. I seem to recall NAPA might... they special order the PCM with your truck's VIN flashed into it.

Most aftermarket auto parts suppliers will incorrectly refer to this unit as an ECU or ECM so don't let that throw you off as long as they have the correct Dodge part number cross referenced against it.

Good luck,

John L.
