Can anyone direct me? I bought my used 1998 3500 Quad cab for pulling and hauling. It never dawned on me to look at suspension. I put my 1800 pound camper slide in, and "What a Waterbed". No sway bars or helper springs. I could not believe DC did this. Need to spend more.

You might consider the Roadmaster Active Suspension. They should help the antisway and loack of overload springs on your truck. I think they are around $250 for a pair. If you do a search you'll come up with a ton of info on these things.

Otherwise Hellwig make a rear swaybar for around $150. They also make overlaod springs for about the same or you can get some airbag to help solve that problem, but my suggestion is to look into the Roadmasters.

Try Helwig. They make a heavy duty unit that is stouter than the factory one. No drilling required, uses stock holes/mounting points.

I have the Helwig sway bar. I removed the stock one and installed the Helwig. Major improvement. Good shocks help out too.

Get some decent shocks first, the OEM shocks are total garbage. They will help the load carrying ability of your truck more than you imagine. A sway bar will help a lot too, but with a dually you may not need it after you get some decent shocks.

I have the Hellwig bar too (Rickson truck sells it, btw). I also recommend the Rancho RS9000 shocks. Set 'em on 4 or 5 when the camper is loaded and you'll notice a huge improvement.

I don't think air bags are needed except to bring the truck back to level. With my 4000+ lb. Lance 1030 loaded, my truck does NOT sag. Go figure.

The Roadmaster Active Suspension (XX) Super
Duty kit will definately help with your
handling problem as well as improve other
aspects of your rear suspension. Call me toll free at 1-877-543-7563 to get all the
technical facts as well as pricing.

Thanks for the info guys. Let me elaborate a little more. I have no problem with it handling the weight. It barely levels off front to back. What is the major problem is sway. I thought the camper was loose. While parked, I grabbed on to the side of camper, and could rock the whole truck very easily 5-7". Top heavy weight? Anyway, my 97 2500 held the weight NO PROBLEM. Only difference was 2500 had factory overloads and 2wd.

The top-heavy load of the camper is definitely imparting some "torque" on the body, making it easier to rock back and forth. The factory camper package includes anti-sway bar and helper springs -- and I think you'd be wise to follow the same route and add those to your truck to help control that rocking back and forth!

Rancho RS9000 shocks wouldn't hurt either. #ad
But, I wouldn't install them without doing at least the sway bar too.

ctdodgeram: See my signature for what I've done. The Rancho 9000's didn't help over stock. Just gave me the ability to adjust the ride from soft with lots of sway to bone rattling with lots of sway. The Hellwig sway bar didn't help much, if at all. The air lifts do keep me level. The dual wheels (from Ricka) did eliminate sway from the rear tires.

The big problem remaining is sway. Next thing I will try is the Timbren Load Boosters. They have a simple design and claim to 'eliminate sway'

One thing I'm sure will help, if you don't need it, is to remove the air conditioner. It's a lot of weight riding 11' off the ground.

Let me know if you find anything that works.
