Hammer,
I, respectfully, disagree with you. I recently spoke with the fuel delivery man at the Quick Trip truck stop, here in Phoenix, & asked him about the LSD/ULSD issue. He said that ALL the fuel they were dispensing was LSD & would remain that way til it was no longer available.
As I said in my previous post, The Flying J, here in Phoenix, sells both. And that is at the auto diesel pumps. Only one of four pump islands is dedicated to ULSD, also. Two weeks ago, I stopped at a new truck stop in western AZ & all they had was LSD.
Whenever I fill up my trucks, I always look at the color & smell the fuel before dispensing it into the truck. I've purchased ULSD & it has very little diesel odor, to it, in comparison to LSD. The ULSD seems more 'water-like' in coloration compared to the greenish/yellow tint to LSD. I agree that this is NOT a serious test but, it is what I have noticed.
In some regions of the country, CA. , for instance, ULSD is all that has been available, for a number of years, now. If you live in one of those regions, ULSD MAY be all that is available. However, here in AZ. , you can find both.
Until recently (last year), we were getting diesel fuel from CA & TX, here in AZ. At that time, CA, for some reason or other, decided not to sell us any more diesel fuel. So, I'm assuming, that all our fuel is now coming from TX.
I specifically choose to use LSD in my engines & when I have to put ULSD in, I mix to a 2% consistency with Soy-Based Biodiesel for the lubricity that may not be there in the ULSD.
