I am installing a continuous duty solenoid for charging the camper battery an need to find a keyed "ON" 12 volt power source. I wanted to tap the wiper motor as it is close to where I am installing the solenoid, but the motor only has a constant 12 with keyed wiper use. No good.

What are other power sources to get a keyed 12 volts? Photos would be helpful.

Thanks.

I've heard that people use the cigar lighter (power outlet on the driver's side) - it is only on when the key is on (maybe on in ACC also). I assume you're looking for something out under the hood, however. The cigar lighter is powered by fuse 40 in the TIPM, it's a PK/YL wire from the TIPM to the connector on the firewall. Perhaps you can tie on at the fuse or find the wire in the harness. I'm looking at the diagram for a 2008, so your's could be different.

The cig lighter is ignition controlled on my '07. Start with a test light and start checking fuses in the power control/fuse module. Find an ignition switched one and go from there.
Do you have the factory tow plug? If so then there is a 12v tap in it but it is always hot.

It is the installtion for the pacbrake relay feed, I am currently installing mine, not sure if I want to vampire clamp the main harness, but it is an easy way to get 12V keyed on the engine side.
