Where do you get your service done?

I typically take my truck to the dealer for oil changes and the every 15k service... ... but I am considering getting the Juice / Attitude, and dont want to have to take the thing off all the time... where do those with "Power Mods" go for service? Do you just uninstall the stuff prior to going, go to a non dealer service shop, do it yourself????

I do most of my own basic service but repairs are done by a friend who was a Dodge dealership mechanic when I met him. He is a great asset for a guy like me who puts lots of miles on one.



I know that many will reject this comment because they don't want it to be true but my friend the former Dodge mechanic told me a couple of years ago that the ECM in the Gen III engines records and retains evidence of performance mods, even after they are removed. It's probably no big deal but could be if an engine that has been modified, even briefly, later melts a piston or scores a piston or cylinder wall.

Thus far the dealer I bought my truck at has done all maintenance (oil changes, the stuff in the service booket, etc) and warranty work (thus far one Universal Joint). Dealer observed TST controller mounted to the dash, and didn't bat an eye regarding the U-Joint replacement. (Coincidentally I won't remove the TST when I take it in, as I personally feel it'd be dishonest).

I suppose if something major happened like turbocharger damage or something similar they'd probably not be able to go easy on the warranty, and they shouldn't. I believe they won't deny me warranty for things that are either obviously manufacturer's deficiencies (under lubed u-joints) or deny most stuff just because of the performance additions.

Although I've owned nothing but trucks for over 35 years, this is my 1st one ton, my 1st dually, and my 1st diesel. No longer have a place to do my own work so all maintenance & repairs are being done by the local Dodge dealer.

Ok, here is the skinny on this issue. If you put a chip into a truck, no matter who's, the manufacture, they CAN void your warrenty. It's up to the dealership if they want to report it. DMC I'm sure know what going on and leaves alot of this up to the dealership. So, it's up to the dealership to basicly Narc you out, or not. And if the local rep thinks they need to look into computer, they can. Then you have the problem of being on the open road and having a break down and getting towed to a dealer you don't know.



What to do what to do. It's up to you. ANd if I broke down on the road, it would be the first thing out of my truck after me of course. No need to let them know something and then they don't have to lie to the area rep. Make them work hard to tell you no.

I think as basic as oil and filter changes are you would be ahead if you could do your own. Then you wouldn't have to worry about the dealership giving you any grief about your mods. The other option is finding a dealer that is mod friendly and have them do your service work. This site is a great source of information as far as mod friendly dealers. Bottom line is once you bomb your truck--YOU are your own warranty.

It's all about dealer--customer relations.

I have an excellent rapport with my dealer; they could care less about my Juice w/Attitude as they know it's a good product and has an excellent track record. I perform all of my oil & fuel filter changes myself, but the truck has been back for only a few nit-picky warranty repairs under 36k miles. The dealer's service department's attitude has been great and I'll purchase all of my vehicles from them (my wife has an '05 Jeep Liberty Limited 4x4 CRD that's getting BOMBed soon) until they prove me otherwise.

On my 95 I did all my own maintenance. On my 05, the dealer gave me a 7 year oil change maintenance service, 2 per year. When that runs out. I'll go back to doing my own.

My dealer gave me LIFETIME oil and filter changes for FREE (every 3,500 mi) so I take it to them.

Dealer. I know the techs and THEY know I'm picky. Even one that dosen't care for me nor I him he still does nice work.

Basics I take care of. Oil, fuel filters, quicker to do it than to go to the dealer.

But for anything I don't want to tackle, my dealer has an AWESOME diesel mechanic. The service writers do not try to play games. This seems so odd, I am not the type to take my truck to a dealer. They found a slight groove on the crank at 99,600 and replaced it w/o issues, and even paid for the rent a car.
