Excuse me if this has been covered, but where does the breather tube dump it's contents? I ask because at last oil change I noticed oil on my bellhousing and I suspect (hope?) it's the breather.

Ryan

You are correct, the breather tube does go down the left side of the engine, and will end up near the bell housing.

Yep, it's hard to believe but whatever doesn't fly back against your bell housing just drips onto the ground!

Second gens had a little catch bottle but it was deleted for the 03s. They must not drip much, I've never found a spot in my driveway.

I just several feet of tycon tubing on it and extended it back like I did on my other ones. Very seldom do I get a oil smell.

What size tubing? 3/4"? I am thinking about adding some on my breather tube too.

Bill I think it was 3/4" I used. Just borrowed a little piece from our shop.

sounds like an improvement over the 02 puke bottle. the worst about this is that off-road, when decending steep grades, the engine will pump crankcase oil out through the tube. I think I'd rather have it the 03 way.

Yep, I've been know to "borrow" (aka five finger discount:eek: ) from the shop when I worked at the truck dealership too. :D

The breather on the 03 has a separator that puts the blowby oil back into the crankcase and only releases the vapors with almost no oil.

I added about a foot of 3/4" hose to the breather tube, just so it's about 2" lower than the oil pan. I used Irrigation system drop hose, it's thin wall and braided and it's black. No more oil smell in the cab.

Raden,

A 3/4" id hose will slip over the end of the tube. A 1/2" hose will replace the fuel filter drain with a tie wrap or band clamp on the upper end. Did this cause its too short for draining into a bottle or can. Dont remember the length but if you do it measure to where you want it to be and then add a few inches so you can cut at angle (do this for either one).

Hope this helps.

As stated, the 3/4" id will slip over the end of the oil breather draft tube (old blow-by).

A 1/2" id will fit the fuel drain. Which I added to the list because the hose is too short (or at least it was on mine).
