are there diff temp stats avail?

is so, what is recommended?

cummins has one for 30 bucks...

going to cummins

will check back when i return

any help appreciated

don

ps - going to get some propolyne glycol for it while i am out

any advice on mixture?

thnx again

Don,

The alternator bracket mounts to the t-stat housing. It is in the elbow that comes out of the engine then bends around to the upper hose. There is an $8 gasket/ rubber seal that goes in there. NO RTV or similar stuff required. It all bolts back together like it came apart. Be sure to get the tapered/ notched side of the gasket toward the t-stat; the t-stat itself has a side stamped "to engine" or "to rad" or something like that.

thanks

ordered the seal too, but at cummins there is already one in the box

i checked before i paid

there was also a blue plastic thing in there

dont know what it is for tho...

left it in the box

cummins said 180 deg so i said okay

should i a got a cooler one or will it get better milage or something like that at 180?

thanks again, don

ppppps - after test driving it (with 12k# trailer) it got up to 180 no prob

well, it took some throttle to get it there but it went

now, idling, it is at 175 and holding

guess thats cuz i drilled a . 100" hole in the stat...

anyways, no air pockets, its full of good coolant, and ready to take me to the races

have a great weekend

don

180 is the coolest I'd want to go. If you are under 300hp and have a good cooling system, you shouldnt need a cooler thermostat. 1stGens arent known for overheating, that's for sure. And I'm surprised it got up TO 120 idling.

You got the kit Don. That Blue plastic template is for the head casting, there were some issues with the t-stat hanging up in the opening, open or closed. TSB on it way back when, the head may have a stamp on it above the Injection Pump if it was addressed. If not you use the template and grind out the hole to match.

has a huge 4 core and had a high flo stat on top of that

seems pretty good now, but then again i have not taken it over the grapevine yet

thanks for the info

pretty sure the hole in the head was large to accept the stat
