My output seal is leaking and when I removed the plug to check level I got the "poof" sound of air pressure. I looked on top and found a vent rubber hose coming out just behind the t-case adapter to the transmission. It is only about 6 inches long and somehow attaches to a wiring harness???

also, to drop the t-case are there just the 6 bolts on the rear of the transmission adapter and that's it? I want to drop the case and remove the tailpiece housing and re-seal it also and heard it is easier to get the snap ring back on. 3. 5 qts of ATF 7126 and finished.

Also, anyone know where the drain plug for the transmission is? I found the fill/check plug on the pass side with the blue tag that says fill with 4874459 4 quarts?

I bought the national brand seal that is made by Timken for $24 at auto parts store. Dealer wanted $68

For transmission you remove the bottom bolt from the PTO cover on the opposite side. The oil you have to get from Dodge, it is expensive. I paid $20. 00 a quart for my truck. I would recommend you use this oil. If you use regular gear oil it will eat away at the syncronizers.

Are you sure the housing leaking? They usually leak from the output shaft at the Yoke. They will sometimes leak from the input shaft as well.

There is no transmission plug. You must drop the pan. Most aftermarket pans will come with a drain plug.

I wouldn't waste my money on mopar fluids. I use Moble 1 synthetic ATF in both transmittion and transfer case. I believe I paid around 7 dollars a quart. ATF +4 is better, but any +3 ATF will do.

Good luck

I should have mentioned that I have the NV4500 5 speed. Mobile one makes a 75w synthetic for about 10. 99 qt

It is leaking from the tailpiece for sure. PO used some kind of caulk on it and the bottom two bolts and lip are leaking. I would just like to pull the entire case and and do it right.

As for the question of the vent line the loom you see is the lines for the center axle disconnect. The vent for both the CAD vacuum system and the transfer case is up by the drivers side firewall. If you have a 2 week low kit that could be the problem.

It is a system that keeps the front axle from engaging when the transfer case is in 4X4 so you can use low range 2 wheel drive
