my temp gauge runs vary cool all the time it may need to be change

will a bad sensor make it run bad

where can we find the sensor on the engine

I would suspect the thermostat is stuck open or missing before a bad sensor.

When you ask 'run bad', what is bad? A cool engine should not run any different than a normal startup. My experience is that the MAP sensor is far more likely to cause poor mileage, surging, and smoke.

The temp. sending unit is in the front of the head just to the right of the thermostat housing, (where the top radiator hose exits the engine). bg
