call standard transmission and gear at 800-783-8726. they can help you out with your trans. they might be able to help you with the transfer case also. you could pm BigBadDodge he has a nv4500 and the np271 t-case.

Check out Quad 4x4 and take 5 minutes to call Dan the Gear Man. He'll give a good explanation of what your options are and can build you a good box with the right main shaft.

I just had a new NV4500 with the Torque King main shaft and new 13. 25" clutch installed in my truck. The transmission was from Quad4X4 is is running fine ... just a little notchy making shifts which I'm sure will become smother as miles go by.

I had the Torque King pilot bearing installed as well ... this is a must.

Dan has the 4500's in stock new, the Dodge dealers don't seem to have any (from what I'm told).

I am almost done with my 500 mile break in and will be ready to run the highway soon.

Any new 4500 has the new tower shifter ... which I think you have in your '98. I didn't and had to get the shift lever kit as well ... nice set up, though I had to zip-tie the shift boot to the stick to close up the gap.

Like Woodenhead said ... contact Dan and see what he's got.

three (?) years ago i was in the same position. shopped around and got the best deal at drive train specialists in las vegas. cost me $1995 (new) + $500 refundable core charge. set me back $100 surface frt to NC. they also has a $1500 reman version. best part was my local dodge dealer allowed me to it shipped directly to him to have it installed. i obviously don't know the current price or even if this outfit is still in business, but worth looking into. regards, steve whalen
