Does anyone know where to get a good job/good price on a rebuilt long block or complete drop in near central California?

Or someone anywhere who is dependable and ships?

Has anyone had any experience with Rhino or PowerPro? They're substantially cheaper than Cummins, but warranty is a lot less.

Dodge is ridiculous, $3000 more than the next highest...

I don't want a used one and I really don't have the time to tear it down, have it machined, rebuild it and get schooled along the way...

DM,

Go to cragslist.org,S. F. bay area, click on cars+trucks, type in dodge diesel in search area. There is 1 in Sacramento area, 2001 4wd, HO engine w/6 speed for $5k w/transfer case which is broken (internal parts are ok). Or whole truck for $5300.

crabman :)

That looks interesting... what happens when going from my truck, which is auto trans and not HO, to this one, which is manual and HO, in terms of elctronics? Will I have any problems with my computer running this engine?

I'm also wondering what kind of damage the engine might have sustained, given there was enough force to crack the transfer case.

I'm going to email him and find out what he has...

go to ebay.

someone sells complete NEW engines.

he has 235hp, 250hp, 305hp.

starting at $4600 ? and change.

cant rebuild one for that.

good luck.

if you cant find it let me know.

Wow, send me a link for that one... I've searched ebay for all permutations of cummins, diesel, engine, dodge, haven't seen anything that good. Got warned off of Performance engineering in Erie, PA, though.

Anyone had experience with Rhino or PowerPro?

Those look pretty good... will they fit in an '01? It seems like the wirng harnesses and valve cover are different and I'm not sure what the 'filter plate' is. There's nothing like that on mine... Anyone have experience with Al's Diesel's Only? He's got great feedback...

HD, I don't think that will work without some mods that are probably over my head. That's an ISB with common rail, and it looks like a different set of electronics.

Thanks for trying though. I'll keep looking. Let me know if you come across anything else.

I'm starting to wonder what all is involved in rebuilding this myself. I'm a fair mechanic, and can figure out a lot of stuff given enough time, but I've never tackled a diesel. Actually, I haven't done any major engine work since before all the computers came in. Last rebuild was a slant 6 on a '66 Power Ram.

We've got a great machine shop here that is actually Cummins certified, but there's a lot of stuff in this motor I'm not too sure about. Replacing a drop in complete motor is a whole lot different than tearing one down to the block..... I think.
