Does anyone know? NO ONE in this town carries Bendix, and one cant even get a new one. There are more brands out there that I havent heard of than those I have heard of. WHat else is a good brand besides Bendix? Dorman? Cardone? Master?

The reason for this is that my W350 had a bad master cylinder when I bought it. Now, the reman I put on in June is bypassing internally- emptying the reservoir for the rear and overfilling the fronts. Weird:confused: So, no more reman for me (I've said that before, though).

There used to be a Bendix store in San Francisco on 7th street I believe. I used to buy all my brake parts for my 66 Chrysler 300 there. They were one of the few places that always had in stock master cylinders, wheel cylinders, drums etc.

Don't know if they are still there, but perhaps Google can answer that question.

Try Rockauto.com, they have new Bendix M/C on closeout $45 + shipping, they also carry Raybestos whick is on par with the Bendix.

BTW had the same problem back in the day, the NAPA & life time guaranty box store rebuilds would last less than 1 year and then the internal leak would start. Replaced with a new Raybestos and the problem has been gone for 5 years now.

Good luck

Ouor local NAPA has no idea who makes the majority of their parts- they all just come in a NAPA box.

Daniel,

I just changed mine about a month or two ago. It was from NAPA and made in Italy and it was brand new. Pedal is rock hard.

Just did a quick internet search and Parts America carries new Bendix master cylinders.

$120 which is 3 times what the el cheapo brands are but likely worth it.

JLEONARD, My two cents to all is AMERICAN Made is by far worth the extra cash for my vehicles! Replaced brake drum two years ago 110 for china 279 for american. Remember people BUY AMERICAN THE JOB YOU SAVE MAY BE YOUR OWN!!!!!

Could someone refresh my memory as to how to get the TDR discount, I'm ordering some parts and I thought it was typing "turbodiesel" in the "where did you hear about us?" line, but that doesn't seem to be working.

Got it Friday, bled it out, put it on, and bled the brakes. After adjusting the rear brakes, I have wonderful braking now, and havent even bypassed the RWAL crapola. Discovered that I need a hardware kit (keeping adjustment)for the one side, so I'll keep an eye on it.

News Flash, Brake parts, A sad state of affairs,

I totally agree with JLEONARD !!! But I'm afraid its a little too late now!
I am sad to report that at this time there are no foundries in the usa left that made the the drums , rotors , master cylinders ect for the big 3 . Bendix, Wagner and Raybestos have all switched over to off shore manufacturers... . They have informed me that as of 2 years ago all USA casting and machining operations have been shut down. .
Any one that wants the USA high end parts better buy them before the stock runs out. . There won't be anymore made where they came from . .

BEWARE of the current Wagner master cylinder part # MC 98896. It is made in Taiwan. The main defect is that the drum brake fitting was made for 18 threads per inch... Our trucks use 20 threads per inch... What happens is that
you can thread the fitting in but it stops half way down . . The flair does not seat and it leaks... This part might also be found in other boxes besides just Wagners... . I wrote a letter to Wagner concerning this matter. They informed me that they were going to correct the problem...

Another option is to have your old parts resleeved. There are 2 places I know of that do it. . They are fairly cheap. As for drums... we are out of luck. . Rotors can be custom made to order by Coleman Brothers... Their market is the stock car market. All casting are top race quality! I have bought several sets from them over the years. The price is really not much at all... You do have to send them a professional drawing of the rotor you want... Their rotors are far superior to what came on our trucks from the factory...

Just understand that I am the last guy you need to lecture on that subject. LOL

I am in the auto business as a mechanical/manufacturing engineer... and I have seen and lived and worked with "offshore" suppliers and trust me it ain't easy. I can't say that I have ever encountered a situation where the quality of either the material or workmanship (or both) is anywhere near what it was from the more local suppliers. (But honestly the attitude is usually many times better).

The parts themselves are always much less costly, but it takes much more effort by engineering, quality, and the rest of the typical "support" functions to pull it off.

OK... I won't rant any more, I've done my part.
