Where to get a PCM for a 97 4 WD?

Why do they go south? Looks like mine is gone,no output .

how much do they cost?Is it possible to repair a bad PCM?

Guys I need your knowledge and experience!TIA!

Werner

I would post an ad in the classified section, I remember several folks buying one, it didn't repair their problem and they are stuck with an expensive part.

Try wrecking yards (USA), some even offer warranty.

Have you had anyone with a scanner inform you exactly what is not being "output. " No outputs, only the temp sensor output not working, no transmission commands etc. ?

Perhaps some of us have a "fix" if you are very specific.

Good luck

PCM Repair

I have repaired several PCM's.

BUT, I've never seen a totally dead one!

Most times the alternator charge circuit or the transmission controller fail. In the case you find a used PCM be aware that you will need a DC dealer to flash it with the correct VIN # and miles. If that step isn't performed the engine will NOT start!!!

Do you have a Chrysler dealer over there? They can do the job for you. They need a DRBIII.

I have yet to see one not start with the wrong vin. Normally they turn on some check lights like the abs light. We swap PCMs quite often between vehicals for diag tests. From what I have seen once the VIN is set the DRB can not change it. The mileage can be changed in the PCM with the DRB but not the VIN once it is set.

When I was in my local Napa there was one on the counter labeled for a '96 Dodge Cummins. Sticker on it said $230 core deposit. Counter guy said they can get rebuilds of most PCMs, he didn't know the price offhand and I was in a hurry.

This is all I asked and all I know about it.

I could be wrong but don't think a 12 valve PCM needs to be reflashed

reflash & VIN

Marco,

ye there is a Chrysler dealer in vicinity, not sure is a DRB tool there. What have you meant with VIN and miles reflash.

what do they have to do,put the correct VIN in the PCM and set the miles from odometer?

Why do they wouldn't start without these steps?

If the PCM is open is it possible to repair it?Marco, would you repair mine?

At my truck the both clocks were standing at zero, the gen light gone, the wait to start & both others in mesaging centre dark. not sure, but seemed the overdrive was not functioning.

Could it be caused by the welding at the truck with the batteries not disconnected?

Guys, how expensive are they and what do I have to know to order the correct one?

Thank you all for your knowledge!

Werner

Send me a private message with your vin # and the year , auto trans vs manual, slt trim level, date of manufacture etc.

I'll call my parts guy and see what he would charge for one "flashed" and ready to go.

It's always a good idea to remove the battery cables when welding on a vehicle.

Some say its a wives tale, but my friend in the autobody business has replaced several pcm's etc. from body techs not removing the battery cables.

Also I have another good friend (welder) that can repair truck frames etc. He always removes the battery cables to isolate the vehicle's electrical system.
