Where to hook up power and lights?

Hi,

I just installed today my three gauges and a- pillar from TST. All went good except I haven't found the best place yet to hook up the ignition lead for the auto transmission gauge that is key operated. I also want to install the lights for the three behind the reostat for dimming. I found the dimming light fuse in the fuse panel. Do they make a piggyback connection for these mini fuse sizes? I really don't want to cut into wires to hook up if possible. Any ideas? I'll find something tomorrow so I can finish it.



What should my turbo pressures be? The previous owner had tampered in the "Big P" and I don't know what's under the cover yet. My next job will be in there to see and then it will get a TST#8 if it just has a stock plate there. It doesn't seem like I have much PSI in my boost. Zero at idle and about 6 to 8 at 2000 RPMs sitting in the driveway. Tomorrow I'll road test the bunch. Thanks for any advice. Herb;)
 
I got power (ignigition only) from behind the fuse panel. If I remember correctly I think the wire was dark blue with a white tracer and is hot in the ignigition only position. It is not hot when the key is in the accessory position. I didn't want the gauges, DTT TC Saver, and hourmeter to be energized when the key was in the accessory position.



The orange wire is the dimmer. If I remember correctly you can also find this wire behind the fuse box.



I don't like fuse taps, so I'd recommend splicing the wires behind the fuse panel, but you can get mini fuse taps at Radio-Shack.

Herb,

You don't make any boost at idle,and none to very little (maybe 2psi) while your just cruising in town. At highway speed you should be 4 to 6psi. The only time you'll see the gauge go near 20psi is when you have your foot to the floor. The boost pressure is relative to the work that the engine needs to do something... harder work,higher boost.

It's wired!

I did use the orange wires behind the dash for the dimmer and the dark blue with white tracer for the power to the transmission gauge. I wrapped my wires around the original with a space of insulation missing and then soldered it together. I like to coat the splice with silicone and after it dried, a covering of tape. I also put a 5 amp mini fuse holder in the power ckt so if it grounds out my overdrive still will work. I also decided on these spots after reading my service manual a long time!! It's not written for the home mechanic and I've had automotive training.



I drove my truck some more today and I get alot more boost when I'm feeding it. I haven't driven it much since the gauges, but soo far I've gotten it up to about 14 lbs. I can get the pyrometer up to 900 degrees pretty quick and back down to 400 about as quick by letting of it. Thanks for the info guys, Herb:D
 
You should get more than 14psi of boost. 17-19 psi is normal for a 96 automatic.



Check your clamps at all the intercooler connections. They may be loosening up and causing an air leak.
