Where to locate muffler?

Okay, so I found a muffler that I am going to try. It is Napa 21467 (my Napa receipt lists it as a resonator). It is 20" long and has a 3. 5" inlet/outlet. Now my question is where is the best place along the exhaust pipe to locate it? Is farther forward in the system going to be any different from farther back? Is one better than the other?



I am going to have to cut a section of pipe out in order to do this so I would like to entertain as many opinions as possible before I do this because I don't want to have to do it over again.

With the muffler in my signature, it seems the further forward you go, the less drone you get. Plus, the 3. 5" pipe is all in front of the stock muffler.
