I am thinking about upgrading all the lines in my fuel system and I'm looking to get out CHEAP. I was thinking I could just use good quality rubber fuel line from NAPA and replace all the banjo bolts with brass fittings that have barb ends on them so I could just push the rubber lines up on the barbs and clamp them.

What size/thread are the factory banjo bolts and does anyone know a source for the fitting with barb ends?

First of all, get hose rated for diesel use.

Cheap fittings may or may not be the way to go. But most hardware stores carry NPT to barb fittings. However, you will have to buy adapters to go from metric stright thead to NPT. So, there goes your budget.

FWIW, I would check out Vulcan's website and order what you need. In the end, you'll pay the same or less for good quality fittings that are correct or you'll burn that and then some in fuel running back and forth to the parts store.

Doesn't vulcan or glacier have a kit for like $70??? That would be the way to go. Figure if you have $2. 00 a fitting you need say 6 fittings, plus hose clamps, plus the hose. That is assuming you can get fittings that screw right into the fuel system. You might save $20 and it wouldn't be as nice.

The kit I looked at was $129. If it were $70 I'd buy it.

One of the kits is the big line kit and the other is just the re-location kit...

I think the 70 dollar kit is available through Genos?

But then again... . I think Genos kit just moves the lift pump to the rear... .

I think...

Been a while... .

I did a relocation kit, 3/8" fuel line for $55. Well... maybe another $10 in wire, but I already had that on hand.

I used the Geno's Kit. I contains the fittings to replace the bango into the FF and in and out of the LP, new hose and the wiring harness. It does not have anything for beyond the FF. I already had Geno's improved bango bolt at the output of the FF with my fuel pressure gauge attached and had drilled out the one at the VP-44. I saw fuel pressure increases of about 2 lbs at idle and cruise and 6 lbs at WOT. SNOKING

No matter if you buy your own fittings or buy a kit, check the ID of the fittings! I live in Mexico and relocated my lift pump back before Vulcan kits were even available. I had to track down fittings, build the relocation bracket, make the wiring harness extension, etc. Today, I would just buy the kit!!!

The fittings I bought were good quality fittings from the Parker Store... an American chain that does business down here. The ID of some of the fittings were as small as 1/4 inch!!! I drilled out EVERYTHING to a minimum 5/16 ID... bigger where possible. In my opinion, checking the ID of all fittings and drilling them out if needed is MANDITORY!!!

1/4" = 4/16". 1/16" larger to 5/16" isn't going to make much of a difference.

I bought my own stuff cause it was cheaper and I wanted to do it myself. All the parts came from 1 place, so I didn't do any searching. :D
