I am happy with my ATS. A friend is very happy with his Suncoast. I have heard good things about Goerend, but I have no personal experience. I would go with whoever will give you the best deal. Take shipping into consideration. I am very happy with my ATS, but if I had it to do again, I would have gone with Suncoast for proximity to my location in south Florida. Shipping from Colorado to Florida $$$$$ OUCH!

Goerend is the only way to go. you can find horror stories about ats and several other. for the money you are about to drop do some home work that's all i can say.

As for my experience all you need to do is start calling around getting quotes and the cream will rise to the top just from that. I bet you that dave will ask way more questions about the truck and your driving style then any others. I also bet he will help you more then any of the others.

You also have dtt to chose from.

I have a goerend trans and love it 100% and the service I get,

Hawk Transmission Service

First I want to thank all of you for your replies and then I wanted to just let you all know who I went to for service. I found a local service guy right here in good old west Michigan. Dustin Hawk has over 15 years rebuilding our beloved Dodge transmissions. What makes his company unique is that he invited me over to watch, learn and make decisions on my transmission as he rebuilds it right before me. So not only did I get a great learning experience but he showed me what was worn, what was not. By the way, after 230k my transmission was really in pretty good shape. In fact, after he first looked at my truck he called me to tell me it was fixed, a small part fell out that actuates the front band. However, after that many miles I knew it was time for a rebuild. So if your looking for a honest, quality transmission builder I strongly suggest you look at this company. I can tell you, his prices are very competitive. Here's his website, take a look: htstransmissions.com/index.html

Feel free to send me an email if you want to know more about Hawk

will you keep us posted as you rack up the miles on it?

Hawk transmission service

Yes, I sure will. And thanks, that's a great idea. If I'm going to put a link for service on our web site for TDR members then followup makes sence.

Sorry to hear you had troubles. What didn't you like? So far mine has been flawless. It is tight and it shifts solid. The lockup controller is a must for any transmittion.

Jerry J,

Good to hear you found someone. Hope it works out.

My ATS was also awful. Had nothing but problems with it, i wish i would have gone with the suncoast. ATS never had an answer for us, they just kept sending parts for us to try, 3 valvebodies, and multiple governors/solenoids. finally got fed up with it and happened to be talking to someone at BD who figured out the problem. i will never buy another product from ATS or recommend them to anyone.

What was the problem? Did they charge you for the parts? How was the transmission after the fix? Do you still have it? If not how long did it last. Just wondering what to expect if I ever have a problem. Thanx

it ended up being a faulty copilot that was allowing the computer to sense a line overpressure code putting the truck into limp mode. they charged me for the shipping of the parts, and i had to pay for the labor for the parts to be installed, they wouldnt cover the labor unless i brought the truck to them, and i wasnt going to drive to colorado. nor would they continue to honor the warranty if i installed the parts myself. and it was one of the guys at BD who suggested we look at the copilot, ATS never mentioned anything about it. They also gave me a hard time about the warranty on the parts, saying i never registered the transmission/flexplate/tc, until i faxed them a copy of the letter saying it had been registered. ATS has the worst customer service ever. if i could afford to sell the transmission and buy a suncoast, i would do it in a heartbeat.

It's amazing how far good customer service will go. I imagine there are many people who have tried to warranty transmissions that have been bought second hand, or been painted purple by who knows. Once you proved you purchased the transmission from them, they should have bent over backwards to make it right. There is no excuse for charging shipping on a few little parts. They should have maintained the warranty or told you to put it on a crate and they would fix it for you. Hopefully I won't have to find out for myself (knock on wood). Thanks for the info.
