Ok, you guys have probably answered this one a million time but here it goes again. Where is the best place for the EGT probe in a 600? Ordered the gauges yesterday and want to know what I am doing when they show up.

Thanks for the help.

Too bad you didn't read it those million times :D

I put it in the side just behind #3. Easy to keep most chips out, easy to fish out any that do get in. See TDR #44, p. 37, bottom right photo; top center of the photo.

Here is a helpful hint when you install your egt probe. Just unbolt the turbo (4 nuts) and it will lower about 1 inch. I put a piece of duck tape over opening and a piece of cardboard over duck tape. While i drilled the hole i used compressed air to blow away any metal filings. Hope this helps.

This is the safest way to drill for the probe. Some have restricted the exhaust and drilled while the engine is running blowing all the shavings back thru the hole you are drilling. Others have used grease on the drills to catch the shavings on the drill bits.

Most people that are really concerned about their EGT's usually install the probe on the rear cylinders of the exhaust manifold. The reason for this is because the rear cylinders run hotter.

Joe,

Would you double check the issue and page? I could not find it in my #44 issue.

The photo at the bottom right of the page shows two turbos. The top one is stock and is on the stock exhasut manifold. If you look closely you can see the pyro fitting in the manifold above the compressor housing.

Sorry Joe, just call me blind in one eye and can't see out of the other. I was looking for the exhaust manifold to be mounted on an engine.
