where to put gauges on 3rd gen

Where else can I put pyro & boost gauges on my 2005 qc 4x4 nv5600 besides the a pillar? Thats where I had three gauges on my 01. I don't want to loose the grab handle (you know your getting old when you need help getting into your truck) I did a search but couldn't find where someone put them in the cubby hole.

You can put ONE on the pillar without losing the handle.

Thats what I did. Then I put two more on the steering column.



I had considered the cubby hole, but you have to take your eyes off the road.



I do remember seeing a post where a guy moved the cubby hole up where the AC controls are, and the AC controls down where the cubby is.

Then he put the gauges in the relocated cubby hole. That way, you don't have to look quite so far down.



I like mine just fine on the steering column. easy to see.

Lord willing, I'll be 70 my next birthday and I hated the thought of giving up the grab handle. That was before I pulled the grab handle out by the roots and had to have it replaced. But now that I have replaced the handle with gauges I no longer miss it. Put 'em up on the A-pillar. You won't be sorry. But you will be sorry if you hang around and watch 'em install it. The worst part is when they walk over to your beloved handle with a hack saw in their hands.

Well I looked up the cubby hole kit & it only comes in 3 gauge set & I only need two boost & pyro. I don't see a need to monitor the fuel presure any longer(what a relief.

Westach combo. Don't lose a crab handle. Just a new pillar the SRT10 pillar. Ordered from Geno's and showed up NEXT day.

I really like what you did for your gauges looks great. what is involved in moving the hvac controls down. Did you have to do some cutting and trimming?Got some instuctions for that job? I'm wanting to copy but may use SPA gauges like Matt those look pretty handy with the features Spa has.

A pillar, works fine, keeps grab handle

That's a nice looking job. However, as an old pilot I prefer one gauge per function. Boost and Pyro = two gauges on the A-pillar, no grab handle. My replacement came from Geno's as well but still required the grab handle to be cut off. Unless something has changed, the replacement fits over the OEM one that (sniff) got chopped.

I may go with what Matt400 has. The cubby hole with the hvac switched looks like a clean instal if only they offered it in a two gauge set.

Matt did you run everything down the headliner & down the a pillar?



I'm not much for those two in one gauges either. Hard enough for these tired old eyes to read with out my reading cheaters on.

I have wanted to do that since saw another memeber pics.



You do have to cut out the lower opening to fit the A/C controls into. I used a Dremel, not hard to do. I spent about an hour looking and deciding if I wanted to hack up the center console. Finally decided I had everything I might need. I spent close to an hour making a perfect template to mark the area to cut out. Then it took me all of 30 seconds to cut all the away to the wrong side of the line. Normal stuff for me. Does not look bad, but I know it is not perfect. I was able to use the screw holes for the cubby to mount the A/C controls. Two of the screws will screw in the holes in the A/C control and the other two screw flanges overlap the mounting tabs. Other than that it is just plugging and unplugging 3 or 4 electrical connections.

I like them, they are in the 03 that my son now has. Originally I started out with the A-Pillar, its a natural spot for a manual trans truck. My 03 was an auto so I monitored EGT and Trans temp in that location.

Yes.

I know, not many like the digital gauges but it really depends on how you use them IMO.

I bought them for their high number recall and the user selectable led warning set points. That way I hardly ever "watched" them, instead I would let the warning get my attention to the gauge. . to back off some. High number recall was used more for fueling box comparisons. The setup I posted was in my 03 which I no longer have.
