I have a 2001 quad cab and I am thinking of upgrading my already upgraded stereo with the addition of an amp and a sub-woofer. Looking to do a single sub no bigger than 12inch as I really am only looking for better sound instead of loud booming bass.

Looked around my truck and on-line for encloures and there really doesnt seem to be too many options (crutchfield offers only one).

I have thought about under the front middle seat, but dont want to loose the flip up console for storeage. Crutchfield has an enclosure that replaces the under the back seat storage, but also dont want to loose that either.

Was thinking about building a box for the back seat floor in the middle on the hump, behind the center front seat, but havent check to see if there is enough room.

How is everyone/anyone else doing this? keep in mind that I cant loose the functionality of the back seat as I have 2 kids that ride in my truck every day. Pics would be great if you have them.

Thanks in advance.

JL Audio has a 12" enclosure that replaces the bottom middle seat cushion and still retains the flip down armrest. There also is somebody that sells a box similar to this on ebay. Do a search here on this site and you will ba able to read about both of these options in greater detail.

i think q logic used to make a nice box to go over the hump and in front of the back seat. Was molded with cupholders in the top.

Also on ebay from time to time you'll see one that's designed to fit under the flip up console between teh front seats. They put a pad on top, and cover it just like the seats. The ones out there now appear to be for 3rd gens, but you might contact the guy about it.

IMHO, I'd go with a 10. 12's tend to boom a little more. If you're just wanting good solid sound, a GOOD 10" woofer in a sealed enclosure would fit the bill.

EDIT: Here's the qlogic one:

I have the JL Audio under the front seat. the only thing you will lose is the seatbelt. Armrest still functions. This way you are not tking up space under rear seat. I drive it with a 100 amp and it sounds awesome :-laf

I also have the box from the guy off ebay that replaces the front center seat. I put a 10" JL Audio sub in it and it sounds great. The ebay number is #190012289339. For some reason I didn't lose the seat belt like jeepit did.

I also am running the jl audio sub under the front middle seat, a kicker dx350amp pushing it, I would like more power of course, the jl audio is wire at 4 ohms so most amps advertised amp cut that buy 50% that would be your working power. mine is a dx350 mono amp so I am only using 175amps. the speaker is rated at 300 amps so it would seem that if you you use a 600amp 2 channel bridged you get 300 amps. my speaker I bought in 99 for my dodge 1500, sold removed stereo and now in my 2002 still sounds great would recommend it.
