Synthetics question

which boost fooler?

Bought the Oilguard bypass filter and am impressed with it's heavy duty construction, and ease of connecting to the system. Problem is where to mount it. The only places that I can see are: On right, or left, side outside of frame and inside of the vertical piece of sheet metal that extends downward about 4"s. --- OR --- (not sure if this will fit) To mount it above drive shaft with bolts securing it through the floor of the truck.

The former looks to me that it would put it behind front wheel in the area where the vehicle would be coming down after going over rocks or large tree limbs. The latter would give me 2 or 3 bolt heads and washers showing above my carpeting.

Any ideas?

I mounted mine on the lower radiator support and ran the return line up the front cover and into the side of the oil filler tube. I had to move the filter when I put on the steering box stiffener, now it bolted thru the stiffner.

There is a spot on the side of the block under your turbo that will work good, you may also have to move your battery ground cable over to this hole and then use that hole. You will have to crawl under the truck to change the filter but thats ok too.

Hey Skip,

I'm getting ready to purchase one of the same. Did you get the new return line to the drain plug? Something about that kind of bugs me. I'm planning on mounting on the cross member below radiator as mullady76 mentioned. Thanks.

Yes, it does replace the oil drain plug. That could be a concern, but it also could help with a problem stated on another thread about whether or not to use a torque wrench on the plug because if you don't tighten it enough some people had there plugs come out --- and if you tighten too much you could strip it.

That has got to be an infrequent occurance, but having the return line coming in would definately keep it from completely unscrewing.

Thanks for the tips on locations, I will check it out when it stops raining.

Any other locations possible?

Look under your turbo, straight down near the seam of the oil pan there is a plug you can pull for a return on the oil.

Mounting...

Had the bracket welded to the inside of the frame below the exhaust brake. Oil return line to engine block.
