Does anyone know where I can get my fuel sample tested at? Also what percent of water in a sample would be considered excessive. The reason I ask is my truck is at the dealer and star is having them drop the tank and sample the fuel for excessive water. They have advised me if they find it they will not honor the warranty and I will be liable for paying labor to drop the tank. I am going to the dealer in 2 hours to get a sample from the tank for my own protection. Please help!!!!

Try your local Caterpiller dealer or big truck dealer. They may be able to test it for you.

Ditto on the above. I got an oil sampling kit from Cashman Equipment (Cat dealer)for $13 plus tax. Collected the oil sample and returned to Cashman for analysis today. They send the sample to Reno with a 1 day or so turnaround. The paperwork had an area to check for various types of oil samples.

The paperwork also had a price list showing:

fuel analysis for $75

coolant analysis for $13-$38

JStieger,

I spoke to the Cashman lab myself. She said that the SOS2 kit was a better option since it is the one that shows TBN numbers for the oil. $16. 00 for the SOS2. Just an FYI for you.

mberry-

Thanks for the advice! I saw that price sheet stuck in the paperwork a few hours after I got done so I'll get the SOS2 done next time. When I went to get the kit this morning the lady in there looked at me with a blank stare, sent me to the service dep't, who prompty sent me back to her, then more blank stares. The only thing is that I don't have any baseline data to compare these results to, but "bad numbers" will be "bad numbers" anyway we look at it I guess...

JStieger:

I'm looking forward to seeing the results of your oil analysis. The silicon #'s will be the deciding factor for me getting a Scotty III.

Please keep me posted.

Thanks
