I know advancing the timing to far is hard on the headgasket and maybe the main bearings, but I dont know where it would be most benificial for me and my grocery getter. So does anyone have any suggestions after looking at my sig?



Going to have it set with a dial indicator on the pump to measure mm lift. And the only things that are going to change in the sig soon are a 0 Or 100plate and a bigger turbo.
 
Is the optimum timing point dependant on what you are seeking: power or economy? What I mean is, will the timing point that yields the best power also yield the best economy? Probably not, because that would be like having your cake and eating it too.

Thanks guys. I'm looking to make the engine run smoothly and efficently. If I can compromise that with a little more mid/upper range power, so be it.
 
mine's set at 18, 17 is just as good. More timing can open up the possibility to make more HP, but it also makes it harder to start, harder to keep the head on, and past about 20 you start dropping torque. 18 or so is optimal for a daily driven hot rod/ tow rig, still smooth and reliable, and if you keep your boost in check, you won't have any HG probs. :D

35/21, 370 Injectors, timing at 25.



412hp@ 2600 rpm,832#tq.



My tq peaked at 2250rpm 929, HP @398.



Oh yea, that was 33. 3 PSI!! LMAO! 35s are fun! :D



And one more thing, it was still carrying 355HP @3500 rpm, 533 tq.



I should drop the timing back, but just never got around to it after I defueled/turboed, it.
 
I put mine at 15. 25 which seemed to work well with the BD Power injectors, but with stock injetors back in it seems a touch too advanced. I'd stay at 16 or below for starters.
