I have a friend who has a '02 3500 4x4 6sp which he just dropped in a set of 75 hp dynomite diesel injectors and bought a smarty too. The truck has an upgraded clutch but everything else is stock. What catcher should he run on the smarty? I believe he has it on timing and boost fooling now. I know he doesn't have guages either. Will he melt her down with those mods? I am just a bit worried. The truck rolls coal pretty well now too. But he says it runs real well and is a blast to drive.

he should be fine but he does need gauges. if he tows do not use fuel saver mode. he should try some mild combos on the revo with the smarty. he needs to understand what the smarty is doing on what Software #'s I dont know what clutch he has but when I had a single disk my smarty low end torque wore it out. it was a FE from Southbend. now have DD3600 from southbend and loving it more. also may want to look at fuel system upgrading his lift pump to a better unit if he hasnt yet. good for future and better to not leave you on the side of the road. set TQ man at 4. timing at 2. diration at 1 and sw. 3 see how he likes that. then go up on the odd software numbers keeping these values. he should be able to tell if he runs his timing to much due to rattle and how it performs on top end. the tq mang. 1-6 he should know what to much is just driving it. very common to slip some clutches with a higher setting.

for fuel milelage empty freeway. sw 1, TQ at 5or6 timing at 4. diration at 1. its sorta play with it and find his own settings. what is good on my truck is not as good on others if that makes sense

Thanks for the reply. He has a FASS on the truck already and the truck does a lot of towing. I will have to familiarize myself with the smarty settings on the VP.

Get gauges before getting happy with the software... mine got REAL hot REAL quick with 125hp injectors, edge comp and stock exh. housing.

I assume he has a boost elbow in there? Keep the max boost around 32-35 lbs to stay in the efficiency range of the turbo. Ditto on the gauges ASAP!

I have larger injectors, but I like to stay on level 1 timing only for daily driving so I can use the cruise control without surging, but level 5 with timing on 3 is my favorite 'play' setting. Find a setting he likes with the default sub-settings and then adjust the tq, duration and timing to personal choice.
