I'm a new member, just subscribed a few weeks ago. Just thought I would post a quick hello, and try to get an idea from those who have there new 3g's where they were made. I have a 2500 QC SB 4X4 s/o diesel, auto trans on order. Scheduled build date of 12/5 at St. Louis North Assembly. This truck has been on order since 9/17. This was originally a dealer-order, but it met my criteria for what I was going to order anyway, so they changed the order from a stock order to a sold order, and almost a week later they had a scheduled build date. It is so strange to see all the guys order times here, some get there trucks in a month, some are still waiting. I was just curious to see who's trucks come from which plants. It seems most are coming from Mexico.

Welcome jcarver

My truck came f/ Mexico as did my first DC which was a 93. I've noticed a big improvement in the workmanship. Welds are cleaner and the shaping of the sheet metal is better. Paint still isn't all that great though.

My 2000 3500QC ETC auto 4x4 was built in St. Louis. It had great paint and was quality built, no problems. My 2002 (see sig) was built in Mexico and is also a quality built truck, to early to tell about the paint but so far it looks great and is staying on the truck :) I don't see any difference in the quality from one plant or the other. Now they use to under coat all of the trucks that came from Lago's (now closed 10/02) they don't do that from any of the other plants. It was a nice touch.

I drive a truck for Celadon Trucking in Indianapolis. I have been pulling Cummins engines out of Columbus for a year and a half, and taking them to the Union Pacific railyard in Dolton,Il (Chicago), to be taken to Saltillo Mexico by train. Since about May of 2002, CMEP has been shipping to St. Louis little by little, with 99% of the engines being shipped by rail to Mexico. For example they ship on average 10 loads per day, 30 engines per load to Mexico. With only on average one load a day to St. Louis.

One point that would make me want a truck made in St. Louis, is the engines are shipped by regular semi-trailer that is free of leaks and water damage, with transit time of about 5 hours.

By rail to Mexico, they're loaded on rail containers, which arent in the best of shape with some loads being returned because of rust from the container leaking. Transit time is about 4 days.

So does this mean that since fewer are made in St. Louis they are better? Don't know that one. But I'm gonna wait to see how our new engine performs and wait til '04 before I start looking at one.

Does anyone know what percentage of 03s are coming from which plants? How many plants are there? I wonder if they can use better paint in Mexico with no EPA looking over their shoulders.

Thanks.
