Hi,

I have just ordered a 2001. 5 2500 4x4 QuadCab LWB Sport ETC with DDX and
SLT+ quick order/Decor, 3. 54 LSD and Trailer Tow.

I ordered on 1/17/01 and the dealer placed the order on 1/18/01. The
finished build date is 2/26/01.

Where might this truck be made? Was yours made in Mexico? Do all the ETC
engines come from the Mexican plants? Do all the DDX transmissions come from
the Mexican plants?

Thanks,
Joe Greer

I'm built in St. Louis (at 10:00pm on a Friday night). So far, no problems. Not sure what the deciding factor is. I don't think that there is a difference in quality regardless.

I am worried about it getting here soon enough so that I qualify for the rebate.

My two Spirit RT's were made in Mexico. I can tell you that they had paint problems back then. Both cars have stone chip problems. When a stone chips the red paint it goes right to the primer, like they waited too long to pain the thing and got poor bonding between the primer and paint.

I had a new 1989 White Spirit ES Turbo 5 speed that I ordered from the dealer and it never had these problems. If the RT were available in 1989 I would have bought it. If the dealer would have told me about the RT Spirits I would have waited...

Thanks,

Wow Smokin Joe, if it is paint that you are worried about, chances are your won't be pleased with the one that DC puts on. I have heard of many complaints. So far, mine is pretty good, it just looks extremely thin.

If it's the rebate that you're worried about, just get the truck you truely want (don't settle for less just to meet the deadline). The truck will be around a lot longer than any rebate will. #ad

All 3 of the ETH trcuks I ordered were built in Mexico. Seems like the quality is better than from the St. Louis plant. Also, my 98. 5 came from Mexico as well.

dresslered, how did you figure out the date & time your truck was built?

My truck (Evan's ETH Order #1) was built in the Santillo, Mexico plant. The Patriot Blue paint is very thin and I had a bunch flake off in the wheelwell. They warranty repaired it. Then when I had my bedliner sprayed in, the masking take took off a bunch of paint at the back of the bed under the tailgate #ad
The paint was so thin on the upper edges of the bed rails you could see right through to the primer on a sunny day. Any little scratch takes it down to the primer.

Other than that and a transmission seal like, I feel my truck was put together very well.

My truck was made in Mexico. I have also experienced the extremely thin paint as Vaughn mentions, though I haven't taken it in for any warranty fixes. Maybe I should.....

St. Louis for me! You can search for more conversations like this - in fact I started one last year that grew fairly large... . The net of it is that we didn't seem to find any correllation between quality/paint, etc...coming from either plant... . I just kind of like the fact that when I chose to buy American, it was made in (insert drum roll here... ) America! #ad

Saint Louis for me, but I had one on order from Cars Direct and the Vin they gave me was from Satillo Mex. Check Dave Fritz's web site "Dodge Ram Tech" and they have a vin break down to determine where the truck is being built, If you have a VIN yet

This is my fourth Ram, three were made in St Louis and this one is from south of the boarder. I have to say that this is the best out of the four.

Mine is from Mexico. Haven't noticed any paint problems or had any other problems yet. Took the dash panel off to wire gages and labels on it were all in Spanish.

St. Louie for my 3500. My 97 2500 was Mexico. Can not tell any difference except it took forever and a day to get it via rail and when it got to Spokane Wa they sent it to NY and then back to Spokane. 6 1/2 months to order and receive. The 2001. 5 was ordered in Oct and received 12/1.

I hope mine does not take forever and a day... I also hope my local dealer does not crash it when unloading it...

My wife and I bought a 1995 metalflake blue Dodge Neon, then we gave it a few years later to my youngest brother. He had bondo fall off the driver side door. The strange thing was that we never wrecked the car. I assumed a new car is new. Now I know that a new car is only new if you see it come off the truck and you get to take it home the next day.

Thanks,
Joe Greer II

My brother said that a DC employee gave a speech at a SDAC club event and the Mixican DC products are said to be better quality. I hear that more American union workers come to work drunk and high than the Mexican ones...
