My 98 had the Infinty system in it. Each speaker had what I thought were small amplifiers built into the back of them. My brother-in-law's Jeep Cherokee had the Infinity with the amplifier mounted under the back seat. My question: Does the 3G Infinity system have an amplifier? Where is it? I checked the speakers and they're not there. It's not under the seat. Is it part of the head unit? Is it mounted in the dash somewhere? Will I lose the amplified signal if I change head units? Help me!

Jeff,

The 04 shop CD shows the amplifier connectors as being in the "Right Instrument Panel". This looks to be above and toward the driver side from the glove box.

Ah ha...this helps me a lot

I wondered where that thing was... I tapped into the factory harness with an adapter for a different head unit and I learned I was trying to back feed signal from my 4 channel amp back into that Infinity amp stuff. So then I tapped into the wires to the front door spkrs near the door sills and had sound but no seperation and poor sound... so now I am running 12 gauge from the 4 Ch. amp to the front spkrs tomorrow morning.

The rears worked fine.

So does the sub.

Something else I ran into... I hooked my remote trigger power for the 4 channel and the sub amp to the red lead in the dash to the red lead on the head unit... its triggered with the Infinity, therefore I am bypassing that and hooking my trigger power for the amps to the 'blue' lead off the head unit... normally the power antenna on other applications... this way I will have the amps fire up when I want, not when I start the truck or turn on the key.

Only a few more hours of work and I will have decent tunes!

Oo.

Thanks for the help guys! Now if I could figure out where the hollow sound is coming from in the driver door. I thought the speaker was blown. Not the case. I thought it was loose. Not the case. When you shut the door it sounds hollow. The other three doors don't sound this way. When you bang on the door from the outside it sounds different from the rest. I'm about to install some Dynamat in there and see if that helps.

My drivers door has an awful vibration that is caused from bass in the speaker. If I put my knee on the door panel it helps with the vibration but not totally.

By the way, I don't listen to Rap music either.

Same here

I had that vibration and now with the MB Quart spkrs in there I had to make some adjustments to how its screwed to the door on the plate I made for it or it vibrates like its stuck or something.

Just the drivers door.

So far I got the vibration gone with the 6x9 adapter plate for the 6. 5" driver and the 1" tweeter seperates in there.

The rear spkrs are Jl's so is the sub.

Scotty we need mo power! 1300 watts is not quite enough.

;)

Scott... . what size MB Quartz did you put in the front doors? I planned on putting my 6x9 Alpine Type R's up there but couldn't get them to fit so I ended up using 6. 5's.

Also, what subwoofer did you use? Where did you install it? I like JL Audio subs and was consider putting one under the rear seat or possibly between the two front seats. Pics would be nice if you have em!! :D
