I've had some issues w/ high coolant temps when towing under severe conditions. I. E. pulling a steep grade at low speeds. I was thinking that I might need to clean the radiator where others have had problems as well w/ the breather hose contaminating the radiator and causing cooling problems.

I can't seem to locate this breather hose or bottle. So if anyone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it very much. TIA.

Looking at your engine from the front, look at the front of the block and to the right a little bit. It's nearly directly above the steering box and above and to the right of the harmonic balancer.

It's a little black plastic bottle with a curved tube running out of the top of it and back into the block.

It sounds like you are talking about coolant? Is this correct? If that is the case you are referring to the "expansion tank" and hose and not the "breather bottle" (crankcase vent).

2 seperate and totally different things... ..... One has to do with coolant and the other is oil.

This is unless you mean that the "breather bottle" is leaking and the fan is blowing oil onto the radiator?

The bottle is easy to find... ... . Look directlly down at the front of the engine. The bottle is located between the fan and the front of the engine. It is small black bottle about the size of a tall vitamin bottle, only it is black with small holes in it and a hose going into the top. It sits very close to the fan and is held in place by a small black strap.

Attached is a piture looking straight down. The hose to the right with the clamp is the breather bottle hose. The bottle is just to the right of the middle of the fan (in the middle of the picture).

Sorry for the bad photo... ... Hard to get a good picture at night.

Overheating at low speed is most likely due to a bad fan clutch. When it engages you should hear it, it sounds like a jet taking off. If you don't hear it, it's bad. If the radiator looks OK through the cap, I'd replace the fan clutch first.

Idleing with the A/C on max and max fan won't the fan clutch engage if it's warm outside? Real easy way to look and see if it is working, maybe. Might be cheaper than replaceing something that may not be broken. Just thinkin out loud . . .

do a search on this site for breather bottle. There is a real good thread on relocating it. Jason

After checking the first post after mine I went out to find the bottle. Low and behold the first owner did the relocation w/ the bottle attached to the drivers side inner fender. Bad new is that the hose has leaked quite a bit where he spliced the new hose to the old. I removed the hoses and cleaned them real well and then added a couple of zip ties to keep the oil from blowing out the connection. Hope that works. There was a lot of crud on the steering box, and all around the area where the two hoses met. I took it to the car wash to try and remove all of the crud but was only able to get about a third off.

I'll check the fan clutch as well.

Thanks to all that helped.
