I'm picking up my 04. 5 3500 tomorrow morning and I would like to remove the turbo silencer thing after I get it home. I remember reading about it but can't seem to find it.

right on the turbo itself, looks like an inverted washer restricting intake into the turbo, it's held in by a snapring that can be removed w/ a small flathead screwdriver or an awl.

Removing it only increases the noise.

It has been dynoed to show no power changs with or without it.

It will come out, you need to cuss louder!!!

What is it with you noise guys? Quiet is cool!

And thats becoming more a serious issue, not just a preference all the time. Noise, more than anything else is whats getting ohv's banned more and more.

If my truck ever comes. My first install or uninstall if you will, will be that silencer ring. I have waited so long for my truck that I would like to hear it scream instead of me.

When we can no longer offroad people will be saying, "but it wasn't "my" fault. And they'll be right, but nothing we do is done in isolation anymore :(

Thanks for the info, I might try removing it Monday morning. I have given some thought to leaving it till after I put gauges in to see if there is a difference before and after the removal. Probably won't wait. :D

As for the noise, no comment other than until they outlaw those irritating little ricer's with their god awful sounding fart can exhaust's:mad:, I think a little more turbo sound will be ok. And my truck will never be out in the hill's or on the dune's, that's what I have my Zuki for. :D

I have a 2nd Gen, but when I removed mine I felt stupid. My turbo was whining like it was doing something and all I was doing was going down the road. People looked like "how sad is it that this guys engine has to make that much noise just to pull away from a red light". :(

It is back in now.

Are you sure they weren't looking and thinking... man that whistle sounds cool? They more likely are thinking "Listen to that noisey rattling motor, it sounds like a potato chip truck" :-laf

It's not that loud. Personally I think it's the best sounding turbo whistle of the big three.
