Which 4" exhaust to buy?

I am looking to order a 4" exhaust for my truck.

The most important factor for me is the noise level. I do NOT want any of the drone some people are experiencing. I just want a free-flowing turbo-back setup, that is easy to install, and can fit without issues behind a Jacobs e-brake.

I live in SoCal, and I do not think I need stainless steel, but I'm open to it, to the 409 SS, not 304 (too expensive).

I have done a search and the most popular seem to be: Jardine's, JRE's, Rip's, and maybe Magnaflow and MBRP.

Actualy I was almost buying the 409SS MBRP, when I found threads where members said they experience a lot of drone and noise in the cab when driving. I want to avoid that, and I think with your knowledge, guys, I can make the right decision. Thank you very much for your help, as always.

Give your advise.

P. S. I just had my rear Mag cover installed,and I do not have a factory cat, if that makes any difference.

I installed Rip's 4" system last week and am very happy with it. Install was easy and everything fit perfectly. No drone at all.

I went with the aluminized 4" MBRP because the hangers are welded to the pipe, not the clamps. Fit perfect and no drone so far. My old system spent three years in Seattle, Washington before moving to California. It had very little rust so I figured aluminized would be fine in the high desert where I live now. As a precaution I painted it with Duplicolor High heat ceramic paint before installing, looks great. Also used S. S. band clamps from Summit Racing. Be sure to get the dual wall S. S. tip, single wall will discolor after a while.

The MBRP has 100% welded hangers that re use the stock rubber mounts just like a stock systems does, plus it has a one peice tail pipe like stock too! We have sold a zillion of them without any drone issues. Same with the AFE systems no drone etc.

I drive the 5 freeway between Laguna Hills and Buena Park every weekday.

It's nice and quiet below 2000 rpm.

When it revs up it gets a little louder and kinda has a crackle to it. Almost like fine tuned 2 stroke dirt bike.

Hard to explain.

I bought mine from Mark (Aluminized 4" MBRP). Got it quick and at a great price. It went on very well (took less time to install than it took to remove the old exhaust) and the fit is perfect and it looks good.



I tow heavy (14k), and I do get a drone around 2000 RPM when pulling up a long grade, but it doesn't do it otherwise. I don't have any problems with normal or unloaded driving. It appears after all the reading I've done, some drone, some don't, even with identical exhaust systems. Someday I may try a resonator or maybe a longer (Donaldson?) muffler, but I'm living with it without too much problem now.

I bought a 4" for my 02 qc 4x4. no drone just tone.



I tow anywhere from 5k to 14k a couple times a month in spring and summer. I have all windows open and the sound is not that bad.

I just installed an MBRP 4" and it drones around 2100-2300 or so. Don't really like that part of it. But everything else is great. Not too loud. At idle you wouldn't even know it's on there. I may attempt to deal with the drone later, but I don't drive highways much so it hasn't annoyed me to the point of fixing it.

I put on a Jerry Jardine... Pinnacle... $275, shipped. . Listen... they all drone, most people just don't recognise it... I ended up putting my resonater back on, with the Pinnacle muffler... . nice sound, and no resonance...

He can do most of the major names, but his basic system includes the "diamond eye". I installed mine in the reverse direction for a bit more bark. But it's not obtrusive and still not a drone to be found... .

O. k. , I've been out of it for awhile. Can you all chime in as to how far forward these exhaust systems go. I've got a Jacob's exhaust brake and refuse to replace it. Will they flare out after the brake?

The Jacobs brake is just the same size as the elbow that was there before. And most full 4" systems expand to 4" right after the turbo. The Magnaflow had a 3" downpipe and then went to 4", if I remember correct.

I also tried to see what Stan's Header 4" with Donaldson muffler looks like, but could't find any pics of it, so if someone here has it, please respond. From what I've heard the Donaldson is an excellent muffler, I think 40" long, but that's why maybe has no drone at all.
