Greetings,

Who's four inch exhaust do you have and was everything smooth with the install? Happy with product?

Thanks

We have a exhaust that we build here in our shop. It is all 4" mandrel bent and uses a 3" downpipe. It is a very easy installation.

I went to the local Freightliner dealer and bought some 45s and 90s, and did some cutting and angling. Did it on 2 trucks, and except for getting plain rolled steel (not aluminized, so it oxidized pretty fast, but didnt rust through) on the first one, it went ok, and looks and sounds good. With a muffler, you should be under $150 for turbo back. I have mine from transmission crossmount back, and have $75 in it, with about 6ft of straight pipe.

The Stan's 4" is on my truck. It's a pretty tight fit, even on a 2wd, but after some settling and prying it's right where it belongs. Came with a Donaldson muffler, and has a great sound improvement over stock. Not sure of any HP gains yet as I've not had it on a dyno since the install. Was around $600 installed, IIRC. See pics in my gallery .

Hey Brian!

I'm running a Stan's 4" turbo back with a Donaldson straight through muffler. It came complete with all the factory hangers but, you have to finish the tailpipe bracket. They leave it off but include it because there were so many location variations even with trucks of the same year. They're right up the street from you. :-laf Installation was a breeze. The hardest part was getting the old exhaust off. You could check out Rip who's closer, however, his downpipe is unfinished as he says he's not jigged for a 4" downpipe and his kit doesn't include hangers. Hope all is well in OR.

Aloha,

Matt

How does Stan's 4" Exhaust fit with an automatic? Does it clear the auto trans dipstick and the trans heat exchanger?

I like my 4" stainless straight pipe. I dont have a brand for as it was somewhat of a custom job.

I only had minor clearance issues with the Stan's I installed last weekend. Mine is a 92 W-250 4x4 automatic. I did have to bend the coolant lines a bit. My kit only came with exhaust clamps, no hangers. I was able to use the stock hangers but added a couple to keep it from moving around. Mine was also a little bit short but a 12" stainless tip took care of that :)

Pretty painless install overall and I'm happy.

Pinnacle Power by Jardine. 3" downpipe turns to 3. 5" turns to 4" after the xfer case. Cheapest one by a hundred or two. The smaller diameter DP is partially? made up for by not having as sharp of bends. It does flow well and I am happy with the performance and sound. (not too loud, unless I roll the coal)

Two comments:

#1: Jeremy at Texas Diesel and Jerry Jardine were good to talk to on the phone (on Saturday even) during the install. They really wanted to do whatever possible to help me get things installed. I also appreciate them going through the effort to develop a 1st gen system. Not enough vendors out there are willing to spend the R&D on us old trucks.

#2: The problem is what can they really do when you are a few hundred miles away and things just don't fit? I had an early system and they may have the bugs worked out now, but it was a PITA and I have quite a few dents around the transfer case area to clear the cross member. (3" EMT conduit makes a good lever to bend 3. 5" exhaust tubing with) It took a lot of time to fit, remove and modify, and then refit. I need to make more dents tonight as I am finally getting around to installing the front driveshaft and it hits as well.

To be fair, I may just be looking at things screwy, and it may be my ineptitude that made things just not fit.

Sorry Jeremy, all the other stuff I got from you works great though.

I bought one of the Pinnacle Power by Jardine exhaust systems also, the price was right but there were issues, I also commend Jardine and really liked Jeremy with Texas Diesel Shop. I intended to build my own 4" downpipe since they did not offer one, turned out a good thing since the included DP was a hammer and dent to fit unit. For the D250 it is more of a straight forward fit with no transfer case issues but the downpipe reminded me of a 2nd Gen unit. I also used the Donaldson muffler, like Airflo offers. And since this is my one and only 1st Gen I didn't notice the tailpipe angle until Philip pointed out that it looks like a 2nd Gen unit also;)

I went with a system from Diesel Performance Systems Inc. Alum over steel 4" from down pipe back(I had a Banks system before). I went with no muffler and used a 4" od X 4" od coupling to connect the mid pipe to tail. I made hangers and installed with 6" stainless tip in about 6 hours. Nice fit no real problems at all and it woke the truck up since the Banks muffler was trashed. I coated it with POR-20 silver 1400 deg paint to help it survive the salt brine winters.
