I'm trying to decide on a 5th wheel hitch, I'm considering the Reese 16K classic and the Hijacker 16k or comparable models. Any suggestions or experiences would be helpfull. My 5th wheel weighs about 10. 5K loaded. Thanks

It depends on your truck bed and the type of towing that you do. If you have a short bed go with a Reese quick slide which will allow you to maneuver in rv parks without bendin up your trucks cab. If you pull off road into the boonies like me, get a articulating hitch which will tilt left and right and forwards and back. I have the 15K reese hitch in my long bed (don't need the quick slide) and I pull a 13. 5K Alpenlite and no problems after two years. Install it yourself if your handy otherwise take it to a reputable installer. It is important to get it about 2 inches ahead of the rear axle for the right weight distribution. Be sure that you have it bolted to the frame. Do not weld. Welding weakens the frame.

I hate the idea of rusty rails in my truck bed... I'm going with a B&W turnover gooseneck ball www.turnoverball.com , the ball can be removed quickly and easily, and a fifth wheel plate assembly inserted into the hole, and latched down. No rails in the bed.

whats a ball park cost for a 5th wheel hitch ? i'm thinking of getting one more for use when someone needs to see the difference a BOMBed auto works vs. their stock or brand x transmission . i looked at the one that briar threw up but a G is alot to spend on something i'll hardly ever use ... unless i go into the haulin' business , i do like the way it disappears .

Terry,
I have a Reese Classic for sale. If you want to take a look at it let me know. It is the 15k Classic... which as you know the 15k is the same thing as the 16k,just re-rated.

I have the B&W turnover ball hitch and companion 5th wheel hitch. Have test towed for about 50 miles. Easy to remove and have a flat surface in the bed of the pickup.
Easy to install, once you get over cutting a 4" hole in the bed.

A good used Reese 15 Classic (great all around hitch) can be bought for $275 to $350.
