The pic is definitely the auto, please let us know you knew that. Anyway, the fastest way to tell the 6 speeds apart is by looking at the case. The NV is Iron & the Getrag is Aluminum.

I can't find any pics of the 6er so I was wondering if it is still the great NV-5600 or the new aluminum Getreg. As of now my stealership doesn't know anything about the new transmission!

I found the gear ratios of the new Getrag transmission and the OD is a 0. 79!!! That means the motor has to turn more to maintain the same speed, right. For me that is another reason to try to get one of the last 04. 5 or 05 NV-5600's while they last.

TRANSMISSION: G56-MANUAL, SIX-SPEED OVERDRIVE (LATE AVAILABILITY)Availability Standard with 5. 9L high-output diesel and 5. 7L V-8 engines

Description Synchronized in all gears

Gear Ratios

1st 6. 29

2nd 3. 48

3rd 2. 10

4th 1. 38

5th 1. 00

6th 0. 79

Reverse 5. 74

I have read about Getrag (G36)? transmission to replace the NV5600 I can't recall where, may have been on this site.

I called the customer line at Dodge.com spoke to a fellow who said that the NV5600 was not going to be replaced.

Please anyone can you shed some lite on this subject as I am looking to buy a New 2500 w/ 6sp and will up my time table if I need to.

Please advise Thanks

In this thread, it says that the Power wagon comes with either the 5-speed automatic, or the new G56 Getrag transmission. I would almost be willing to bet the ranch that this will be the new 6-speed in the 06 Ram HD's.

Maybe it's just a six speed the ga$$er hemi.
