Diesel, JP 8, or Jet A...whats the difference

New Cummins Parts Website

I will check into the BOL's again and get back. All that I can tell you for sure is that my truck runs best on Chevron Diesel w/Techron D. It seems to me to idle smoother and the power is smoother. I purchase this in Dixon, CA and the price, if you pay cash, is competative with everything around here.

My Pop took the truck to Salinas a week or so ago and before he returned it to me he filled it up with fuel at a local station. It does not seem the same to me. I really don't keep an eye on my fuel mileage much since I don't drive the truck everyday. My observation is seat of the pants only. All I can tell you for sure is that I like the way that it runs on Chevron better than any other fuel I have bought in Ca, Nev, Or, Wa, or Az.

I have a friend at work who was getting terrible mileage out of his '06. He took it to three different techs and it was finally corrected (the fix escapes me). The third tech also told him to stick with Chevron or Esso. For all my southern friends, if travelling through western Canada, avoid Husky (Mohawk), Petro-Can and Shell. I realize in northern British Columbia (if you're travelling to Alaska or vice versa) you may have no choice. Personally, I use Chevron and noticed a mileage increase after I switched from Husky(Mohawk).

If I am correct all the fuel is the same. It travels thru a large piple line from areas like texas to areas up here. http://www.aaanewsroom.net/Assets/Files/OldFiles/distribution.pdf

You are right on the money about most of the fuel comes from the same pipeline. Only difference MAYBE additive changes. The other only difference is the condition of the dealers tanks - - dirt -water - and age.

Chattanooga, however has three area pipe lines serving it, Colonial, Plantation and TransMontaigh down in Georgia.

Ioften end up with moderate amounts of fuel left over from boat deliveries. This is red diesel that I believe is mostly standard LSD fuel as opposed to ULSD. I honestly don not check the fuel dock pump labels. I am very careful of keeping the fuel clean and free of water. It is not a good thing to have bad dirty fuel in the middle of the pacific. I noticed a bit more smoke this last go. I filled my truck and wife's tdi jetta with fuel from fuel dock In HA. Ihave not really noticed a change in mpg. But I do not do this frequently enough to have good data.

One of the reasons for poor fuel mileage with some brands like Wal-Mart is that to keep the price lower the fuel is one blend. Meaning that what some call premium diesel or winter blend typically has always given me less mileage. As a result I don't buy diesel from WW anymore. Check for yourself. Look at what has been done to the fuel cap, we no longer have one. What a government, they keep raising the fuel standards while putting more crap on that reduces mileage. Now we have a fuel tank that once was a problem with the cap releasing fumes going to a tank with out a cap. This is government progress at it's best.
