Hey TDR Gang!

This morning on the way to work I got that tell-tale squeak that comes from a worn universal joint. Even though they have been regularly lubed, I feel replacement is near.

Which brand provides the best performance & durability? Any tricks to installation?

Thank you in advance! Keeno

Hey Old School!

I should have posted this in the "Product Forum" for better response, Sorry! Could you please move this subject to the proper forum & close?

Thanks! & sorry for the inconvenience.

KEENO: I've been using the NAPA #330 HD greasable joints (mfg. by precision joint co. ) on the rear driveshaft. A suggestion is to install the joints with the grease fittings in the compression location between the drive shaft yoke and the mating yoke keeping in mind the powered direction of rotation of the shaft. This would optimize the installation.
Have fun.

I always stick with Spicer u-joints ... . I seem to get the longest service out of them. Most any driveline shop will have them, or contact Tom Wood's Custome Drive Shafts at http://www.4xshaft.com

I'm with old school on this one. I just replaced the joints on the outter front axle with Precision greasable joints in the compression side of the shaft spin. Not a fun job, but worth the agony to make a good truck better.

I have used the Spicer U joints with grease fittings in the cap, on my Jeep front axels. I like the ability to keep them greased, but the hole drilled in the center for the grease to pass through seems to make them weaker. I used to allways pop the front axel U-joints until I went to the non greasable kind.

Hey Gang!

Thanks for all of the replys & insight!

I went the 'Greaseable Heavy-duty Precision Universal' route from my local reputable driveshaft shop. Dropped the rear driveshaft off at the shop, bought lunch for my girlfriend (she was driving me around after all), and picked it up an hour later. Total parts & labor, $65. 00 and 15 minutes to bolt it back in the truck.

Thanks, again! Keeno

OK I am going to finally ask this question although it is a little embarrassing #ad
. How or were do you know is the compression side of the drive shaft when putting in the u-joint I have heard of this mentioned but guess I don't follow what is meant by this if someone could explain it maybe then it will make sense:confused.

Thanks,
Paul
