I'm in need of a clutch on my 04. 5, nv5600. I've been looking at the SBC con ofe. All I have on the truck is an Edge EZ, and maybe in the future an attitude w/juice or TST. I tow with this truck, but nothing real heavy. It's more or less my daily driver. I'm looking for something long term, and not to ratical. I want to keep this truck as close to stock as possible. Is the con ofe the way to go, or is there a better choice or better brand? Thanks

The OFE is a great clutch. If you plan on future upgrades decide where you want to go now to save yourself money in the end. If you add a tst or something you should be OK. You could always get a dual disk and never worry about the clutch again... .

the OFE is a very good choice if you dont plan on makeing a ton of power i am running my OFE with over 550hp every day.

the new dual disc on the other hand is a very sweet setup for just about anyone. you can go wrong with either in your situation.

Thanks for everyones input, were these clutches notorious for going out. With the way that a drive my truck, I thought it would last forever. I only have 50,000 miles on it, 3/4s being empty. If my little EZ helped with it, these clutches belong in a Dakota.

not quite notorious for going bad. but when you tow alot you will run into that. im sure the EZ had a small part it its performance.

PM me as well, I am interested in the new sprung dual disk 6 cb 3600lb street comp and I would also want a price for the upgraded hydraulics.

PM me too please! I can make my cltuch slip anytime thanks to my juice and EZ. :-laf :-laf I have a very similar set up to JGoss except for the juice, what is the diference between the OFE and a dual disk?

The OFE is a single disk clutch like the OEM it is just a much better quality material and comes with a new pressure plate. A dual disk is just that, it is a totally new assembly with two clutch disks, a center floater plate, new flywheel and pressure plate. You end up with twice as much friction surface so it holds considerably more than a single disk clutch.

I was told the ofe is the best towing clutch available. Thats what i have and i tow a 25 foot toy hauler all the time with my tst on 3x3. No slipping yet. The stock clutch would slip unloaded with my box on 3

I have had both OFE's and FE's. . I am very happy with my FE in my 98. 4... I am just $aving some money for my FE single Disk in my 04. 5... I would say either way, OFE or FE you cannot go wrong. . Best of luck in your choice!! Keep us updated!

I honestly dont understand why it would have only lasted you 50K with 1/4 of the time towing. I understand why I replaced mine on my 2004 jeep wrangler at 30K under warrenty when they did transmission (broke synchro's on the trail in a mud pit after 15K of trail miles), cuz I would slip it for more reduction while trying to climb the big rocks on the trail, even then it was only glazed. Don't you guys know to spend minimum time on the far left pedal? Also dont ride down the road with your foot rested on the clutch pedal as this is bad too. Clutches last longer when they have full spring pressure holding them firm against pressure plate and flywheel. So make those shifts a little quicker to make them clutches last longer but not so hard as to be a 16 y/o dropping the clutch every shift like its a toy. Also used all 6 speeds. starting in second and slipping the clutch only puts more unneccessary wear on the clutch.

I'm well aware of how to shift my truck, I can even shift 9 speeds, 13 speeds, and 8LL's, etc. That's old news about minimum time on the clutch pedal, considering I only use it on start ups and stops. Thanks for your instructions though, I'll print your reply out, and put it in my Dodge and 10 wheeler.
