Towing a heavy tag trailer.

Do you carry a firearm in your RV?

The basic clutch is designed for many functions... remember that its like a balance scale... . as you change the needs... . move to one side of the scale so to speak you have to be willing to give up something else.....

As an example, feramic or ceramic materials handle the HP and torque needs as you turn up the HP but don't do well backing that fifth wheel trailer that weighs 15K... you juat can't feather a feramic or ceramic clutch... .

So the best clutch for all around use... and being driver friendly is something close to stock... . AMS's Rhino Pac... . the LUK and a few others... . I personally don't agree with what the boys in Southbend do... . so I personally wouldn't go there... .

But remember the basic fact..... if you enhance one part of the clutch you have to give up something else..... There is pages to be written on this... and I'm going to stop here... .

So what are you trying to say I know guys that have centerforce and luke. The centerforce seems to be the best driver frendly the luke was jerky but nether held up to some mods and a few pulls? I'm still don't know what to run???

Has anyone here tried useing a first gen. clutch on the third gen. trucks with the five speed? It may sound crazy but it really works great. Compare the two clutches and you will see the differance. They work smoothly in all conditions and will take abuse. It does work.

What do you mean?? old style pressure plate??

When I had my 01 I was advised that the 12 valve 94-98 disc would be better by a pretty decent margin- think it was in the springs, ended up trading it in after 5k miles though so I did not really test the advice.

Yes, I'm talking about like a 93 mod. clutch pack from Napa with pressure plate. You will have to have different bolts to put it on. Can't remember the length though. My brother-in-law has been putting them on whenever he does a trans. and clutch job on the five speeds. So far everyone has been very happy with them. They are smooth and no one has had any trouble with them slipping at all. He put one of the high dollar ones on one time for a customer but they did not like it at all because it was like a toggle switch, on or off. People might say this can't work or thats to simple but it's working for him just fine. And one of these trucks is used extremly hard with no clutch problems. From my own truck experiance I would not use the stock replacement for the second gen. trucks. Been there, done that.

It will work on a 90 with a 5 speed ?? and it will need new bolts for the pressure plate that are longer? do you havethe part # of the kit and will it hold up to 300hp????

I think the clutch on a 90 mod. is the same as what I have been talking about. This clutch he is using as a replacement clutch is for a 91 through 93. It is the one that was used behind the Getrag. I think it is a 13'' and the one behind the NV4500 is a 12''? It's covering more surface area. Most of the trucks he is putting them on are 12 valves and they are all turned up. One is a lowered 1 ton with a TST plate and bigger injectors. I don't know what kind of H. P. he is putting out but it feels stout. I don't know the part numbers but they are just stock clutch kits for 91 through 93. They are simply the clutch behind the Getrag being put behind the NV4500. The bolts have to be replaced with longer ones that I believe are 2 1/4 inch long. This is working great for him but I can't sit here and guarantee this will solve all our problems with slipping clutches but this is an alternative that I would use. I tried the regular replacement clutch on my 96 I had and and within a week it started slipping so I was getting ready to do the swap but my daughter talked me into getting another truck with an auto. (whitch she has now took to college with her ) so I no longer have to worry about a simple clutch swap, I have to wonder when the total auto. rebuild is going to come along. 68000 on auto and counting.
