4" exhaust for HX40?

I am hoping to be around 500 hp by early spring. I am in need of a clutch right now on my 2001 H. O. I will be pulling about 4 to 5 times a year and drive my truck almost everyday. I am looking into the Haisley or the south bend but not sure which is the best and which will hold up the best all opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Chris

If your going to be "pulling" as in sled pulling you will want a dual disc clutch, you have THREE choices just in case you haven't heard of the Mitchell pulling clutch along with the ones you have mentioned. All three are very good and streetable but have differences. Check prices also there is some difference there.

Good Luck with your decision

Well here are my thoughts on clutch decision. The Mitchell will hold what ever u want to give it. And at the sled pull track its the best for slipping and then wanting it to hold after u just got through slipping the hell out of it, ... but its slower than cold mollassas on a freezing day when it comes to shifting. I sincro shift my transmission, cause it takes the same amount of time if i were to push the clutch in while shifting. The haisley and the south bend clutches are supposed to be a lot faster, But, they are not holding the big power. Take it for what its worth. I'd rather hold the big power myself, because when i want to shift fast i just hop in my prostreet automatic truck. If u drive the truck and also want to beat the guy next to you, light to light, then its going to be hard with a mitchel clutch.

southbend duel disk

i have been running peters duel disk clutch and love it. i dont sledpull at all but do use it from time to time:p shifts very smooth and isnt noisey. peter is a great vender and he backs all of his products up 100%. i can tell you his clutch holds me slamming 4th gear with 35' tires leaving a very nice set of marks. :D

I want to be able to pull sleds a few times a year and it would be nice the faster it shifts. Which shifts the best? Anyone running the haisley clutch?

Also about how much is each?

Chris

The Mitchell clutch isn't that slow shifting, it lets me propel my 7900# heap to 14. 7 in the 1/4. It's not a drag racing clutch by any means, but when your talking fractions of a second difference in one clutch to another, it's not an issue. If you want to hold your power, sled pull, tow anything, race, or just drive, you'll love it.

I believe I'm allowed to post these  Mod's if I'm wrong I appologize.

SBC DD Street = $1750

SBC DD Comp = $2300

Haisley DD Street Puller = $1850

EEP DD Puller = $1700

I have about 10k and 6 hard pulls on my Mitchell. I tow up to 14k and have not had any trouble with anything yet. I love all the characteristics.

As to whom ever first said it was slow shifting, bull ****. What are they comparing it to? Mine isnt slow at all, compared to stock, that is.

I had researched clutches for about 6 months before I made my decision, and I am more than happy with what I got. Hope you have the same luck.

I have had people tell me that my cummins is noisey. The Mitchell does rattle when the clutch is pushed in. It's the center plate. You roll into a pull at the county fair, and anybody that knows anything about clutches know you mean business. :D

If you preferr to sit at a stop light with your foot firmly on the clutch to floor you might get sick of the niose. But normally I only hear the rattle when manuvering with window down, you won't hear it much while driving. You will get more trans noise but that will come with ANY Dual disc with unsprung hubs witch all three are. When I first heard the rattle on some ones else's truck I was not impressed but after driving on just a short trip I new it was the clutch for me. In a perfect world it wouldn't rattle but in a perfect world I would have 600 hp and no smoke. and get 20mpg to there are some trade offs.

i guess jtisdale is just a slow shifter from the start, lol. the mitchell IS slow shifting, like it or not. Ask any Mitchell owner that know how to shift and the mitchel is way slower, it just won't let u put the shifter in, i broke my shift handle off twice. Two years ago somebody asked Brandon if he did so good in the sled pulls, why he didn't drag race, ... . his responce was he's have to start off in fifth gear if he wanted to race, . . and if you don't believ me, ask Piers... . he's tried them all and he's same the same thing. U got to have your priorities straight, . . do u want to race light to light or sled pull. The only set up that is the best of best worlds is a mitchel clutch with a lenco magnesium case transmission.

To be perfectly honest, the only people I have heard complain about the noise, are the people who don't own one, and are doing the pom-pom dance for another clutch company.

I had to define,"disengaged" on another thread.

There is a slight hesitation 2 to 3 shift, I don't use 1st. Third to 4th, seems fine. I dragged once, started in third, but could not bring mysefl to slam gears and had horrible times. Dragracing is too hard on equipment. LMAO!

If you have the urge to hook 40,000 pounds behind you, put it in 4th low range, hold the throttle on the wood,(4500rpm +for alot of us) and THEN let the clutch out, and tow your trailer during the week, I wouldn't consider anything other than a Mitchell clutch.

I couldn't have said it any better myselfOo.

Speaking from limited personal experience I have installed and driven the haisley clutch. It is totally quiet with your foot on the floor waiting for the light to change, but will ride 100 feet on the pulling track and hook up every time. the only noise you get is an occasional screech from the iron discs. I have a used street puller I bought from a guy that sold his truck that has 15-16 hooks on it this year that I can sell that will last easily 2-3 more seasons before a rebuild. email if interested

Yah, Gene said it right, ... its all about priorities. U can shift fast, but i grinds like crazy. I love my mitchel clutch. Don't forget that u also have to buy a pricey input shaft too. One thing i like about the other clutches is that they (i believe) use billet flywheels and center plates. At least thats what Peter was talking about doing. The mitchel flywheel is cut pretty good and they use a stock fly wheel, its a little scary, but if the back east guys go as long as they say they go without changing flywheels or clutches, then i'm not going to worry.

From what i understand because my truck is a six speed i do not have to have an input shaft.

That is correct isn't it?

Chris

Fill in your signature and we will know what year truck you have. It depends on what year 6spd you have weather you have the bigger shaft or the smaller one.
