I have a OTC Monitor Elite, w/2002 upgrades both domestic and import. I love it and use it all the time. I also have a OTC monitor 2000, which i have had for about 13-14 years. It still works great and I use it for the older models (92 and back). They can be a great asset, or toy, or both. Just go with a name brand, one that will be there when several years down the road you want to update for the newer models.

I've got Alex Pepers Car Code. It works okay but takes some time to learn to use it effectively, I'm not sure I've got it all figured out yet. Documentation is next to nothing but the support seems to be pretty good.

I got Harrison R & D's OBDScan and CANScan. So far they have kinda been a PITA, but the OBDScan does work. I haven't got the CANScan to work yet... . His Enhanced Data program for Fords is pretty amazing. I can hook up to a PSD and monitor nearly every sensor on the vehicle. All the programs could be more user friendly, but you get what you pay for and I think Dan has priced his products quite accordingly. They work great for the money. Also, Dan has been VERY helpful when I have had problems.

Sticks, you should bring your laptop to the next RMTDR event and we could compare... .

Does Alex Peper's stuff support the new CAN protocol? The 6. 0L PSD's use CAN.

Matt

Alexs car-code does indeed support CAN in one purchase option ($240). I bought just the single ISO version ($129) since it's all I need to work on my three Chrysler Corp. vehicles with.

I just reviewed these two web sites. Both have their high points and some negative points.

autoenginuity: states that it has limited ability to read the Cummins ISB OBDII sensors.

easediagnostics: Seems to stress ease of use.

If their software can run under any Windows platform, then we can put those old laptops back to work. I still have my old Toshiba 75 mHz DX386. Works fine, but only can run Win95.

I didn't see that about the AutoEnginuity. I'll have to recheck. Could you post the url for that page? If I didn't see it the 1st - Nth time I looked at their site, so I don't think I could find without some help. The Ease is the more expensive of the two and further behind in support for late model vehicles. What I liked about the AutoEnginuity was:

1) Bi-directional support. You have the ability to initiate system and component tests;

2. ) Support for the new extenede sensor list;

3. ) They seem to update their software more frequently than some of the others.

I sent the following message to AutoEnginuity concerning their product. Will report back when/if I get a reply.

There is one serious downside to this product: The company was formed in 2002 and hasn't had a chance to prove they will be here next year or ten years from now.

=====================================

Will Scan Tool fully interact with all of the Cummins/Dodge software in the RAM trucks with the diesel engines?

There are a lot of folks on the www.turbodieselregister.com web site that are very interested in your product.

Sorry, no. We have full support for PowerStroke and now Duramax. We still

don't have a Chrysler/Dodge enhanced interfaces at this time.

:( :( :( :(

I have tried the Auto Enginuity product. It was very nice and very fast but the data it would monitor on the Cummins was very limited. I was having some problems and Jay gave great support. Im willing to try it again when he gets it to extract more info.

Bodybomber, do you remember what sensors you could monitor with the Auto Enginuity, ones that would be of interest to us after some bombs? On their site they show fuel rail pressure; how about boost? Thanks.

With Alex Pepers software I can monitor the following;

Manifold Pressure

Intake Air Temp

Vehicle Speed

Engine RPM

Throttle %

Engine Load %

Coolant Temp

I think there are a couple others but I can't remember them off the top of my head. I can also reset the MIL, check current and pending codes, log the data and graph it.
