There are HP upgrades in my future. I've already decided on the PowerEdge box -- waiting on the timing upgrades.

What I'm trying to decide is what injectors to buy. Please limit the discussion to DD injectors.

Why do I want injectors in addition to the box?
1. Extra MPG
2. Extra HP even with the box off.
3. Smooth out the engine (hopefully).

What am I worried about?
1. I do NOT want a lot of smoke
2. I want the cruise to still work when the box is off or on setting 1.
3. I don't want worse MPG (see 1 above).

So: What suggestions do you guys have? I'm sure there are people out there with PE boxes and DD injectors. Please let me know what kind of power the injectors added on top of the box, what kind of smoke you get, if you have A or M injectors, etc.

I'm thinking DD stage II (A) is about the limit with the PE (and my self-imposed constraints). Is that true? Will these already smoke too much? Could I go to II-M or III-A without any more smoke????

Any help?????

Kyle -
My thoughts exactly. I mean exactly, except I'm thinking DD I from what Porky told me about injectors.

Hey guys - Please chime in on this. Us chickens (sorry, Kyle) want to do the right thing the first time. I have the same desires and concerns as Kyle.

PS - And be specific regarding other modules, elbows, etc.

Thanks a bunch, Joe #ad

I have DDII m's these are great injectors. All by themselves they are pretty impressive. I'm thinking about the PE also. I feel that with the PE and stage II's I will have available all the power I will ever need. When I am towing I can turn off the PE and still have an enjoyable ride. I don't think if I had stage I injectors that the box would ever be off. I also like the fact that I would only mess with the injection pump occasionally when I wanted real kick A## power. JMHO

Papa, no offense taken. You can call me just about anything if it saves me a few bucks or a day in the shop. What have you heard about the injectors along with a PE? Are you talking about DD Stage 1 A's or M's? Is a Stage 1 M the same as a Stage 2 A (as far as smoke is concerned)?

Kyle, I may be wrong although, I believe DD only has one type of Stage 1 injector whereas, the Stage 2s and 3s can be purchased in the A or M configurations.

Actually, I believe they have 1A and 1M and Stage 2 and 3 have been recently made standardized. They don't offer the A or M on Stage 2 or 3 anymore. So I was told about 2 weeks ago.

Kyle,
I have the stage III-A's and the PE Box.
My mileage increased about 1-2 mpg (when I am not racing corvettes).
With the box off low rpms you get a little smoke, with the Box on setting 3 low rpms, you look like a Navy Destroyer putting down a smoke scene. The smoke is only a function of how you drive. If you put the pedal to it with no boost you will smoke, if you bring the r's up slow and build some boost no smoke.
I love the power but the down side is if you are automatic, time to do some serious work to deal with the extra ponies and torque. In my case I am looking for a new clutch because it is fried.
On the dyno she put out 350HP at 725lbs of torque and that was with the clutch slipping.
Get a new high performance clutch in and she will do better.
Over all the truck runs a lot better, the injectors and Box let the sleeping gaint do what it is easily capable of doing!
Good luck.

DIESEL GUY: You are correct. I talked to DD yesterday and they told me that their Stage 2's and 3's aren't as radical as they used to be. The don't smoke as much and the "only" give you the advertised horsepower increase (before they usually gave more than advertised). Consequently they have 4 injectors for the ISB: S1-A, S1-M, S2, and S3.

MIKE: Thanks for the input. My style of 4-wheel driving is slow and easy -- lots of rocks where we go. I'm wondering how much the Stage III's will smoke doing this (PE box turned off). High altitude, engine idling, clutch engaged, and govenor open crawling up a rock. Anyone have Stage IIIs and do any 4-wheeling at altitude?

Probably stating the obvious for those in NV but I just registered my truck in NV and to my surprise, 3/4 ton diesels can be registered smog exempt. Cost an additional $15, I think. After dealing with the hassle of emissions/safety tests in UT it's great to be free again.

The only smog info I have is from DD. They said a Stage-3-equipped RAM (with boost module & elbow) will pass CARB (California). The problem is that each state does their own type of test. Here in AZ it's an opacity test only, but our test is stricter than the opacity portion of the California test.

Arizona is <= 20% opacity only.
California is <= 40% opacity plus some chemistry sniffing (I think?? Someone please correct me on this if I'm wrong).
I also don't know if they're the same kind of test. What kind of load is put on the "dyno" (and I use that term loosely), what speed, how long, etc.
