Muffler replacement

I read at Performance Systems Manufacturing, LLC or in the last issue of TDR magazine something about these filters.

Pete Tomka ran tests (dyno and road) with the large cone filter in the stock airbox. The filter is too large for the box and there is not enough area outside of the filter for the air to flow (its restrictive when inside the box).

He recommends the aFe PG-7 drop in replacement.

With a stock fresh filter I could pull my filter minder into the yellow after only a couple of ,full power freeway entries. After I dropped in the PG7 I drove 1100 miles with a 7k trailer with 40-50 miles of 30psi and/or full throttle and it hasn't budged off the bottom. Good airflow and the only brand Genos sells now.

amsoil nano

I have the amsoil nano but removed it when I found a white powder in the intake tube after 3k miles on it. I don't know what it was, it was not gritty but definetly came from the nano. I'm back to using paper and changing every 10-12k miles but am considering the aFe also for the less restriction. Have you nano users had this issue? It was too weird for a top rated filter but scared me so out it came.

I am running the Amsoil drop in filter, about 10K on it. Had the air box off this weekend, no residue of any kind in the inlet tube. Just used compressed air and dropped it back in!

I'm using the AFE super stock drop-in filter from Geno's. I got a noticeable difference in throttle response and power. Of course I did the home depot stock airbox mod and knocked out the baffles out of the intake tubing too.

The "White" you are seeing is not coming from the filter element, as there is nothing used in the manufacture of this filter that would be white in color.

Yeah I know the nano is light blue as I remember and this could have been very very light blue and looked white against the black intake tube. Can't remember for sure, that was 50k miles ago. It's in the box in the garage, I'll have to look. I apologize for calling it a powder. When I wiped it with my finger it looked like a powder and left a clean streak where I wiped but in the tube it was more like a microscopic fuzz, and I know I never had anything in the tube before installing it and after cleaning and using paper have never had anything in it since. I was shocked since I knew the tube was super clean when the filter was installed and since it's been super clean since going back to paper my deduction points to the nano.

You might check out True Flow.

They use two stages of foam reminecent of off road (ie dirtbike / 4wheelers) air filters.

They claim with the extra surface area their filters can maintain airflow much better when dirty.

I had a true flow back before the Amsoil nano filter came out. Lets just say it didn't last long and I tried cleaning it but couldn't get it clean enough for my standards. No more oiled filters for me except in my motorcycles and atvs.

BTW silicon #'s in my uoa was as good as paper and the Amsoil though.

AFE pro guard 7 (and I am running smarty JR on tow setting ((+70 hp)) No movement of the filter guard like I had with the Amsoil. .
