I am a new member and this is my first posting, be gentle. I have a 98. 5 24v auto 1-ton 4x4 dually, with 110,000 miles. the only mod to the truck is a K&N air filter. I usually run the truck empty but several times a year I pull a 12,000 lbs boat any where from 200 to 1500 miles round trip. I am taking a trip in about 2 weeks, and iwould like to put an edge module on before I leave, but I dont know which one I need. I will be adding things to the truck to increase performance and mpg in the near future, so I dont want to buy something that I will have to replace or upgrade later. Any and almost all advice will be appreciated

With an Auto with that many miles, i would just get an Edge EZ. Anything more would be too risky without some major upgrading.

CORRECT ORDER OF BOMBing.

1. Guages: boost, Pyrometer, optional transmission temp.

2. K&N air filter in the stock air box or a scotty air system.

3. 4" exhaust turbo to tail pipe, preferably mandrel bent aluminized.

4. Then some sort of fuel enhancements, i. e. Van AAken CPC or larger injectors, but not both at the same time until ...

5. upgrades to the torque converter and valve body on Auto's, or a clutch on a manual

High quality low stall converter, preferably 1600 rpm, and a valve body modifications to recalibrate to handle the extra power. I prefer the Centerforce dual friction clutch on the manuals.

6. Depending on what you choose on #4 finish the job with injectors or Box.

7. 1/2 inch fuel system to feed that hungry powerhouse, and keep that injection pump cool and lubricated.

8. US Gear 20% Overdrive auxiliary transmission so you can use all that new found power. How's 1800 rpms at 75 mph sound?

9. A BD turbo mount exhaust brake to slow her down.

I think the EZ is what you want... ... If you decide to go more later they have a great resale value. You have lots of $$ to spend if you want to do more anyway so get the EZ and see what you think.

I personally do not agree with this route. I would do the auto transmission FIRST and I would definately NOT go the K&N route. I would go with the Scotty II and AFE though. I think they're way behind in where the transmission upgrades should be occuring.

transmission first

I agree with Jack on transmission and air filter. I tried just the injectors first thinking I could just take it a bit easy for awhile before upgrading the transmission. At that point already I was fighting slippage in the lockup clutch. In my opinion, the stock transmission is not up to the task even with stock engine power. Once you experience the difference a transmission upgrade makes you will never be sorry.

I have the EZ, 4" exhaust and a K&N with a Scotty on 01" 2500 auto and i have had this setup for 30k miles and the truck runs great. Just did the transmission fluid and it was fine. You dont need to upgrade the transmission unless you start adding injectors or a bigger box. The stock transmission is fine with an EZ.

Ninearrow,

Why don't you call Mark Chapple at TST or Aaron at Edge Products. I would think they would be the most knowledgeable on this subject.

If you don't have them already, get gauges first, then you can choose the Edge power module, exhaust and air intake you want to use. The Edge EZ works well using a jumper inside the box to make power level adjustments or adjustments for injector changes etc. In the highest level expect 65hp and about 185lb-ft. at the rear wheels.

The Edge Comp is a little more expensive, but gives you more power options and power levels can be changed from the cab up to an awesome 120hp.

Since you indicate that you want to add several performance enhancements, you should look for a package with these components. We have several packages available which may give you some options for the right package.
