which electric brake controler to use?

I have the tekonsha mini brake controler now on my dakota.

Is the newer model prodigy worth the money?

OR is the JORDAN RESEARCH cable type connected to the brake pedal arm the best type? Please advise

I agree on the Jordan recommendation. You can pay less but you won't buy a unit as good as the Jordan.

I've used the electronic ramped-output type (Reese Brakeman I), the inertial type (Tekonsha Sentinel) and the true proportional (Jordan Ultima 2020) controllers. Don't waste your time and money on the first two - save yourself the frustration and go for the Jordan from the git-go! You won't regret it... .

I have been thinking of switching brake cont. If I understand corectlly the Jordan is atached to the brakes directly via a cable? and it applies pressure based on you pedal pressure? so its more like a real brake set not a on off type deal as the old style electric controlers. I have never liked the way they operate. Any one using this is welcome to set me steaight sounds like a great addition. Ii tow a 10-11K horse trailer. Dave

Try the new Tekonsha Prodigy. The Prodigy has replaced the internal pendulum with an electronic accelerometer. It has user selectable three levels of trailer "lead braking" for 2 seconds before the accelerometer takes over. Self check of the brake circuits. No leveling adjustment any more. Before I always used handl control to override the pendulum type controllers. Now this controller is better than the old hydraulic controllers used to be.



The Jordan sends voltage to the trailer brakes based on brake pedal/arm movement, not pressure.

I hope I'm not screwin' up, but after reading how everybody thinks the old hydraulic controllers were the best, I found one this weekend. I have RWAL brakes and will Tee it into the front line. Hope it works! I'll plug the trailer in and do some volt readings before I hit the road with it. Craig

Just had my Prodigy out on the road for the first time. Drive 1200 miles to Florida. First day the proportional system of the brake was not working. Was really upset. Then it settled down and worked beautifully for the rest of the trip. I pull an 18K 4'er. Good luck.

I had (past tense, it got destroyed, long story) a brand new Kelsey Hayes hydraulic controller on my Power Wagon.



Except for the time the tube to the brakes suddenly started leaking, it was great. The idea of brakes being completely proportional to pressure just can't be beat, if you ask me





If anyone can locate another one of these, I'd love to buy it. I got mine from Napa, sold as a Napa brand accessory, but had K-H right on it. Napa discontinued the part long ago, but I got one that had been sitting around forever.

Power Wagon,

I located a brand new Kelsey automatic electric brake controller for 2,4 or 6 brake systems, sitting on the shelf in my friend's garage. It is kit no. 81740B with the hydraulic tube and fitting. Only thing missing is the installation instructions. The guy who has it bought it years ago, took out the instructions and chickened out when he found out he had to splice into the line. Forgot to put the instructions back in the box. If you know how to install it, I can get it for you. He just wants the price he paid for it 10 years ago, price tag is still on the box. Either PM or email me if you want it... you have right of first refusal. If you don't take it, first person to post on this thread that they want it can have it. I told him to let me see if a person I know (you) wants it before he tries to sell it to someone else.
