What engine brake does anyone suggest, Pac, Banks Or dealer installedone? I have a 2006 3500 and pull a 30ft 5th wheel.

Best... . I suggest you look at the web pages of both manufacturers and make your decisions based on your needs.....

I would only consider 2, the pac and the Jacobs... . both are supplied to the engine manufactures for installation on larger engines as they travel down the assembly and can be ordered as factory installed...

The other exhaust brakes or engine brakes don't have access to the factory information... both have in house engineering and manufacturing... the others farm out part of these services...

I personally believe that the PXRB from pac brake functions better to a lower RPM than the other brands... but thats the one I offer and have sold to a lot of TDR members...

Ask the guys on this board, and if you'd like to talk to us... let me know, I'd be happy to personally answer your questions... We were a Jacobs dist. years ago and only offer PacBrake today...

The PXRB is a great product!

Do yourself a favor and shoot a PM to jelag.

Jim is an honest dealer and if there are any problems, he will be there to take care of them.

Engine brakes and exhaust brakes are two different things. Engine brakes, "true Jake Brake type, are not available for for the ISB. All that is available is an exhaust brake. Engine brakes alter the valve opening to in effect turn the engine into a compressor. On some that I have driven you could engage 2 4 or 6 cylinders with the engine brake. An exhaust brake merely partially plugs the exhaust to create back pressure with in the exhaust system back into the turbo and engine.

I had the Jake installed by dealer when purchased, figured 1st year and warranty issues may arise? Haven`t so far, 22,500 mi. , use it all the time and pull 38` 5er. It does disengage on the auto at 22mph or so but not an issue so far, cold warm-up is great. JMO

I went with Pacbrake on my 06'. It comes with onboard air. While not 100% duty cycle, it's very handy. The brake also works great. No problems to date. Also helps warm the engine in cold weather.

I bought the PacBrake from Jelag. Totally happy with the installations, and it works awesome while pulling my Toyhauler and when driving empty. It will change the way you drive. Scotty

Pac

So, on the Pac brakes, what's the difference between the regular and PRXB models? I've seen both advertised, but don't know why there prices are so different. Bruce

I have the regular Pac Brake on my 98 12 Valve and pull a 30' 5er and love the brake, I didn't know about Jelag when I bought mine, I would have bought from him if I'd known. The Pac Brake is awsum, works good with my auto trans. , had to change to the 60 LBs Valve springs, and the BD TC lockup, mine is not the PRXB but still works just great and you will love it, I use it all the time.

Looks like Pac is prefered :-laf I got one of the first Jacobs units in early '03. I wasn't happy with the fact that it had to have an add on vacuum pump (included) or the extra cost over the earlier units. I will say that it has performed well and I wouldn't be without some kind of exhaust brake. Anyhow about a month ago, just before arriving home from a trip I started hearing a ticking sound from the engine compartment and wondered what was going on. I found out shortly when I exited the interstate and had no exhaust brake ! The pump was worn out. Just under 5 years old, and worn out. The only positive thing I can add is, once I found a part # the local Cummins dealer took my order over the phone, had a new pump drop shipped from the distributor, and I had it the next day. The pump was $90. 33 which suprised me, I was expecting the old wallet to take a much bigger hit than that.

I have the jake brake that was installed at the dealer. I really like it a lot. My trailer is a 38 foot fifthwheel a little over 15. 000Lb, +400Lb water, 1,130Lb. fuel in the truck. We run all over TX. NM. AZ. southern CA. Ran intrestate 8 150Ft. below sea level up to 9,300Ft. The jake worked very well in all the mountains on steep grades. The jake was tested by cummins engine.

I have the PAC on my 04. 5 and really do like it. However, I did lose the plastic air line. It developed a split about 2 inches right at the brake. We suspect it failed because of heat. So down Monarch Pass in Colorado pulling a 13. 5K 5er no exhaust brake. Really fun. I had a new line made up in Montrose, CO and it works fine now. But I now carry a second line which I recommend to anyone having a PAC and it is very easy to install.
