Im close to closing the deal on a very nice 04 Dodge 3500 QC, LB, 4x4 with only 75000 miles.
It’s at a dealer in California with Ca plates and the previous owner traded it in.
The add shows the HO Cummins and 4:10 rear end which is great.
I had an 03 but bought it in Arizona so I could get the HO.
I thought in 04 there was no more California model with only 235/460 but after researching it looks like it was 05 until only 1 engine rating.
How can find out the actual specs on this vehicle?
I use window sticker lookup to show the window sticker but it only goes back to 2013.
Also, would the Standard output Cummins be a deal breaker on a really nice truck?
I don’t plan to tow heavy and will carry a 3000 lb slide in Camper.
Thanks
Also, they were numerous people calling on the truck while I was at the dealer.

DRW or SRW? Only DRW had 4.10 option.
04 were 305hp and 04.5 where 325hp motors.
There should be a data tag on the motor that tells which is is.

look at the sticker on the side of the plastic valve cover driver side rear . the data will be there. If it's a cali truck more than likely it's not an HO. also get the build date on the door sticker could be a 04.5 . anything manufactered after 01/04 would be the "600" motor

It’s a SRW.
I did see an add for an 04 SRW and it said 4:10 with a picture of the window sticker?
Checking the car fax it was purchased locally in Sept 04 so may be an 04.5 and has had only 2 local owners with good dealer service records.
What would the data plate on the engine say?
I’ll try to have the salesman look.

I really appreciate your time and help. Should be picking the truck up tomorrow as they have to smog, detail, Lube/oil/filter and replace 2 tires. I’ve owned every generation and I probably like my 03 the best.
I agree with the DRW for the camper but I want to stay smaller in the 8-9’ non-slide out range to get more off road.
Does the 04.5 have the same lift pump as the 03 or was it moved to the fuel tank?

I stand corrected. I was thinking the 04.5 went to 3.73 only.

4.10's lasted at least thru the 5.9 with a 48RE. The G56 was available with 3.73's only in a 5.9 from its introduction, aside from less than 100 that got 4.10's but were recalled. A An AD G56 and 4.10's would be a stump pulling SOB, but be doing 2500 rpms at 70 with stock tires.

I had the G56 so knew that 3.73 was the only option there.

Yes it was on the filter cannister. You can look and see easily if it was retro to the intank. If not be sure to carry a spare.

Correct, but I think by now most of them have been retrofitted. Especially when it was always at the dealership to do work.
