Still waiting on my plates from the dealer on my "new" Dodge. Bought it used with 35k but to me it is still new. I had a 99 Dodge Cummins before but the new High Output engines are new to me. My truck manufacture date is 8/03 in Mexico. Which engine do I have, the 555? The truck is a 2004 but I see references to 2004. 5.

I have run two tanks of fuel and carefully hand calculated my mileage at 20. 7 and 20. 9 on the Houston freeway. My previous Dodge usually got 18 to 19 (empty of course) so it is a little better. :)

Look forward to your input Oo.

Should be a 305/555... mine is an '04 and has the same month/year build date and it's a 305/555.

could also be a 250/460 SO model also... if it is 6 speed, it is HO, if it is slushbox, it could be either... the emissions dataplate [sticker] on the valve cover cover will show what hp you have.

2004. 0 to 2004. 4 did not have the 250 hp, only the 305 hp/555 ft lb, unless in California (and other "clone" emission states) where the engine was 235 hp with a cat con like the 2nd gen 12 valves used. The 5 speed was not used in 2004.

i could have swore when i ordered my truck, the SO 250hp [or what ever the non cali so was hp wise] was still avalable, and the only difference was being it came standard with the nv4500 transmission, and not an additional option to buy the nv5600 when the HO was ordered... .

maybe i am wrong... ?
