going to buy an exhaust brake, which one and where to buy it. I like the BD but it seems to be more expensive than the others. Next choice is the Banks. What do you guys think?

have an 01 HO 6 speed

Hi

just got the Jacobs. 3-12

Mechanicsville still had a good price

you are covered for it's use by D C if any issues show up

I have the BD on my '03 and a PacBrack on my '02 3500's. DON"T waste your money on the BD. Have had it serviced a couple of times due to no braking effect when towing. Goes in for another find what's at fault in April. No comparison between the two. Should have bought the PacBrake instead of wasteing my money on the BD.

Pacbrake. The only problem that I have had with it is, after washing down the engine, I have to take it out for a drive and get the engine warm and cycle the brake several times or the solenoid will stick. If I don't do this, then I have to tap it with the handle of a screwdriver to free it up again, after the truck sits overnight.

Two years and I would not own a truck without one. I have never driven any of the other brakes, so I can't comment on them. The only draw back that I can think of with the Pacbrake is if you intend to go to a bigger exhaust system later. Then I would suggest getting a larger diameter exhaust brake of different manufacture (cause to my knowledge Pacbrake don't make one) and changing the exhaust system at the same time.

Ex brake

No flame is meant by this but I've had a B-D for 4 years no problem. I ALWAYS use it and it's worked every time. The B-D brake works better than others at a lower RPM. That's why I bought it.

I agree with the Mad Bomber. I've had my BD for over three years and 40,000 miles and it has never missed a beat. I went with it because of the lower rpm specs and paid about the same as a Pacbrake because Piers had them on sale.

I have a BD and it has worked very well even at -20 deg. 100,000 + miles on e-brake and still going strong.

Just get one! Any brake is better than no brake. . . even the warm up valve on my F350. Cept it sure makes it backfire! Scary. . . I turned it off, afraid I was gonna blow hell outta something. Anybody got any ideas what makes a diesel backfire?

Cheers,

Steve J.

I'm running the BD 4" inline and love it!!! The valve opening is about twice the size of the turbo mount versions. But I agree on one thing, they all work and work well..... Buy one you won't regret it.

B-D brake

Last time my tires were rotated the guy ask do you ever stop? I only need service brakes when you disconect clutch,I also find that I need to turn it off on a hill because it works too well.

I'm glad to hear the BD works as i just ordered one. Also ordered the X monitor pyro, boost, and lift pump.

01. 5 3500 H. O. 6 speed, 3. 54's Tow a 34' roller bed trailer to carry roof trusses. Its heavy !

US GEAR D-cellarator(sp?) is what now resides under my truck. There is NO holes in the butterfly for the back pressure it is wastegated! It also has a port for a back pressure gauge which I did install. When this brake closes. . it closes. .

Also if I am every able to do the twin turbos. . there is enough room in the adapters so that I can run the 5" exhaust into it...

They are little $$$$ but I am glad I waited and got this one. .

I'm a Pacbrake fan. Had it installed before I picked up my new ride (had same system on my '96 3500 with no problems). But... .....

Now the brake baffle is sticking in the exhaust elbow of my '02 and staying on, not shutting off immediately. Super Lube spray doesn't help. I bought my ctd new in Sept 2001 and have just over 30k on the clock. HERE'S THE GOOD NEWS: Pacbrake is gonna replace the brake and cover the labor for the reinstall. HOT DAMN! This is a good deal warranty, eh. Can't find easier guys to work with than at Pacbrake. They do know their stuff and are most helpful.

As an aside, when ya wash down your engine compartment, use a baggie as a cover up over the soleniod so no water gets into the breather knob on the solenoid. Also, if ya ever have to pull the solenoid down for a "clean & polish", it's no big deal and the guys at Pacbrake can walk ya through it. Hope this is heplful.

US Gear DCelerator air operated. I have a air compressor and run the USG remote 4". I did not want the exhaust brake right after the turbo because of heat and sudden change in pressure on the turbo when activated. Also can change turbos and not change the exhaust brake.

I chose air operated because the solenoids on all the remote brands seem to have trouble after a couple of months. I run 60 psi regulated to it and it operates EVERY time. I think 60 psi on a ram is a lot more force than a solenoid operated edvice ever will be.

USG DCelerator is built like a sherman tank, extrenely rugged. Is bypassed without holes in the actuator.

I like it,

I bought my US GEAR De-cellarator used with nearly 30k on it. It is electrically operatored. I have been using it for 4k and have not had any problems.

I can tell you this... I have no problems knowing when the gate shuts. It does not slowly shut... . it slams shut.

This brake gets used all the time. Once I get out of our neighborhood and hit the freeway on my way to work I punch the button to activate it.
