Mine rotted off in front of the muffler today so I am going with a 4" system now. Does one manufacturer fit better than another?I am looking at the MBRP. sounds good for the price. Any input on this one or any others.

Thanks.

You might want to look at this... ...

the "other" clamp is the one you get with a MBRP kit. The accu-clamp is worth a few more bucks
He's right about the exhaust clamps. Whatever system you get use band clamps like shown in the link above. The exhaust clamps crimp the overlapping exhaust clamp/exhaust pipe together due to the force on the round U type bolt against the exhaust pipes. Once they are torqued down, even if you loosen the clamp the pipes, are crimped together. I fought my exhaust trying to get it off because of those clamps. Take's a sawzall to cut the old exhaust off.

However, I got the T409 SS 4 in MBRP turbo-back exhaust and love it. I've had it about 2 years now. I'd choose T304 if I did it again, I did not use the MBRP supplied clamps but bought T304 SS 4 in band clamps from NAPA at $10 apiece (it took 3 I think). I love the sound of the exhaust and it fit easily in the stock rubber hangers without adding parts except for mine needed a rear hanger which I purchased for $30. I put a 5 in SS T304 MBRP SS 12 in tip and it looks great. I had to reuse the old downpipe bolts because the supplied ones did not fit.

At the time the cheapest price was www.xtremediesel.com and shipping is still free.

Here is a link to their MBRP T409 Turbo back that I got. The tip is extra:

MBRP angled, double wall, 12in SS tip, 4in in and 5in out looks great on the truck:

Don't forget to ask some of the guys who are supporting vendors of this site versus getting something off of a website with sometimes little to no customer service. Never hurts to ask some of the smaller guys. :)

I also have the MBRP exhaust. Easy install and love the sound. I also used the ss band clamps. Great product and no problems.

+3 on the band clamps. I had to install a muffler in my truck (straight pipe = no pass PA inspection in my area... :( ) and ordered a Flo-Pro muffler with band clamps.

"Where have you been all my life???" Oo.

I never want to use old-style clamps again... on anything... ever... :D

If you go with MBRP you will need the extra rear hanger because yors is a 97 (pre 98. 5) like mine. Here is the MBRP rear hanger:

The hanger can be got from dealer too. The MBRP exhaust pipes have the hanger rods welded to the exhaust pipes (which some systems don't do but this makes install much easier) so you will re-use the front two stock hanger/rubber donuts. You do not use your old rear hanger but replace it with the new style one. I hung the hanger on the back rod (after the front exhaust pieces were loosely hung in place) and figured where to drill holes in the inside frame near spare tire (Remove spare tire of course).

Other than that it was easy. If you have trouble getting old system off, a Sawzall with metal tip is your best friend... don't ask me how I know. Hit the clamps and downpipe bolts with PB blaster to loosen them. I did it a few days prior and keep hitting them till the day of install.

The MBRP supplied 2 downpipe bolts did not fit so I re-used the old ones. It took a few long extensions with wobble ends (or universal joints would work) to reach the downpipe bolts from below. Limited wiggle room there.
