The truck now has 32K on it. Didn't buy the extended warranty when new because I knew better. Now that I'm approaching the end of my warranty I'm getting cold feet. Have had a couple of real expensive warranty fixes on the truck. Love the truck, but I'm worried about cost of major repairs. Tow a fiver and will be towing lots of miles over the next five years.

Called the dealer. I found out they sell DC extended and an independent policy. Did some checking on the net and found that the dealer price was a rip. Seems to be three or four major extended warranty companys out there. Which one do you guys suggest? Thanks, Jack

roll the dice

My two cents is to stick with the DC warrentee. Most dealers will discount the suggested price by 25 to 40 percent for their "good" customers. You can also go with a larger front end deductable to keep the cost down. I recently was solicitated directly from DC to buy an extended warrenty and their incentive was to to spread the cost over 36 months without interest and offered a money back at the end of the warrentee period of all cost less any claims paid. I called my dealer and bought the 7 year 100,000 super duper program at 60 percent of list.

FACTORY! also nego the price. It has a LARGE markup. The NON factory policys are a pain to deal with and have NO vested interest in the product or YOU. You are D. Cs. customer not theirs. The aftermarkt companys are out to save themselves money. The factory policy is out to keep you in a D. C. vehicle and fix their product(truck)and their customer(you)

I have to agree with DPKetchum here. My focus would definitely be NEGOTIATE the price aggressively with them. Don't let your cold feet get the best of your wallet.

I had a Warranty Gold policy on our '98 Satrun. A few years after we got it, the underwriter for our policy went TU and the policy was worthless. The OEM extended warranty is as good as the company who made your truck (for whatever that's worth). I got the 7 year 100K $100 ded. for $1995 and financed it with my truck (0% for 4 years).

BUY THE D/C WARRANTY!!!! If you call around, you will get a deal. i have the 7 year/ 100k , zero deduct on my 04. 5. It cost me $2200 when I bought the truck. Try Dave Smith in Idaho. I bought one from him for my sons truck that was used and they did it all on the phone with a credit card. No hassel! Not sure what the price was but I think they may surcharge you something like $50 or $100 extra if it is over 12k miles. I could be wrong. I would just start calling and then go with the best price. Be sure that it is the D/C Maxi Care warranty and not an aftermarket... Good luck! :D  :)

:)

When we bought our old "93" CTD, we took the factory extended 7 year warranty out on this. We were not disappointed as it payed itself off. If one keeps their truck longer than average, this might pay for itself in costly repairs later. Our 04. 5 has this too. At the labor rates now days, this should not be overlooked.

I agree -- DC warranty. I have, however, had good luck when I did use Warranty Gold. I had a couple of claims and both of them were paid -- no questions asked. It was on a 2003 Chevy Z71. When I sold the truck, Warranty Gold also re-funded me a pro-rated amount for the warranty that was left on the truck. I got most of my money back.
